The word escapes me, but they are in charge of keeping the place up, taking care of the Pastor's house, etc?

Thanks for all of your help and of course, you're all right - I was looking for "Board of Trustees"

Keeping up the building, or seeing that it is kept up is just one of the duties of the board. There are also two different names for those who serve the church - deacons and trustees. The deacons are generally ( not to get to detailed but there is more to it than this) concerned with conducting the business of the church and making sure things are done according to scripture, the churches constitution and by-laws, denominational guidelines and, yes, the laws of man. The trustees are to take care of the matters of the building (maintenance, purchases, etc.).
Sometimes these two groups are combined into one board.

Sometimes it's called the Board of Property Management or the Stewardship Board. Some churches call the individual workers "sextons."

I just saw your addendum, but in Southern Baptist churches we have a board of trustees, a building and grounds committee, or sometimes both. Glad you found what you were looking for.
