As pertaining to our current conflict, or future wars? Our conflict over in Iraq could hardly be even closely related to the strategic concept of Blitzkrieg. It really depends on what kind of war you're talking about. Guerrilla warfare can't be countered with a Blitzkrieg strategy. In this case you have to undermine the social support of these groups that are fighting against you, winning the local population's "hearts and minds" so to speak. However, if you're talking about two or more nations that are militarily developed, Blitzkrieg can be a viable strategy. Gaining element of surprise has always been regarded as a sound tactical maneuver, as Washington has shown when he claimed victory during the Delaware crossing. This also plays on the lack of response time the defending army will have against your attack. Ideally, you need to take initiative by exploiting a weakness and causing them to respond. Usually this creates a little confusion as the defenders will need reform in order to contain your attack. Also, the less tangible aspect of employing this strategy is the psychological effects it will have on your enemy. Make them doubt their moves, and always be looking out for where the next attack will be coming from. This will prove to be a huge drain on the morale of the defender, and all else being equal, the army with the higher morale will always win.

After the Blitzkrieg's effective early days in WW2 it lost it effectiveness for the Germans so why would the US adopt an old, out dated campaign concept??

The Blitzkrieg strategy....Bang,bang,bang, hit them hard and fast, overwhelm them with the lightning speed and ferocity of your assault, stun them into submission. When Hitler did it Europe shook hard. I thought that the US has used blitzkrieg many times before.

It is for every modern army in the planet that faces another organized conventional army;It means the perfect cooperation
of all arms(and of course the air arm to act as air artillery in tactical missions) for an unexpected and quick break through
followed up by the above cooperation of arms keeping up the pressure until the enemy is incapable of resistance and overtaken by events
