The bridesmaids dresses should be less formal that yours, not more. If you wear tea length, then they should be tea length- no longer.

Hey! Ok so I'm a guy but I'm answering this because I did a study on height so I know what helps short people. You're not actually that short! 5'4 is the average height for a woman! But if you're shorter than the other bridesmaids then I guess I can see your issue. Like everyone else has said you should make sure your shoes don't look weird with the dress. Also make sure you can actually walk in them for a long period because weddings involve a lot of standing! I don't know what you think 'stripper heels' are like but there are a lot of styles with high heels and a platform that aren't as bad as what strippers might wear. You can get them in mary jane style for example! Have a good look round for something that will look stylish then you don't have to worry about other people noticing them! If you want any other height related advice you can contact me through my profile. Good luck, Simon ;-)

Tell them long or short (pick a length for them). Long will look fine as long as they are simple. Give them a picture of your dress, they'll be able to pick dresses based on that.
Another thing you could do is pick out their dresses for them, only pick out more dresses than bridesmaids (if you have 3 maids, maybe pick 5 dresses). You can control the dresses to make sure they aren't more formal than yours, but they'll still be able to choose what looks good on them.

depending on the overall style of the dress, it could be either. But I think I would prefer that all the dresses be the same length...the final decision should be up to you. IF you don't really care, just tell the ladies that your dress will be short, and then tell them that they can wear whatever they like.

The girls should wear something pretty informal considering it's a beachy wedding. Have them wear shorter, casual dresses. It may look a little weird if your bridal party is more dressed up than you!
Something along these lines: http://i.ivillage.com/BS/fashion/weddings/wedding2006/BS_Beach_366.jpg

Yes, they can. There are no rules that say you can't. Afterall, it's your day:)
If you are looking for jewelry for your bridal party, I would recommend GlamForLess.com. Though the site doesn’t look that great, they do offer great deals and I was pleasantly surprised when I got the jewelry set I ordered. The quality of the jewelry really exceeded my expectations. I got mine from http://www.glamforless.com/Jewelry.htm.

It could look kind of out-of-kilter if their dresses are longer. I think you should specify that the dresses should be the same length as yours, or shorter.

I would request tea length as long as they haven't already purchased dresses. If they were to go longer, their dresses would be much more formal than yours and could possibly upstage your dress.
Plus, they would be alot more comfortable at the beach in shorter dresses.

It is your wedding meaning you can do as you please. However according to Diane Warner, she states that if the brides dress is street length, the bridesmaids as well as the mother's dress should be t-length as well.

They should have tea length. Their dresses will look more formal than yours then, and all attention should be on you the bride.
