The company has offered me a demotion as a pharmacy technician, which would pay like $10 an hour. I got another month in my management trainee position, so what can I do with it if I look for jobs elsewhere? I want to get out of retail.

My Goodness, get out of retail during the Christmas Season? 1. get in writing - good comments and reviews from your fellow workers / suppliers etc. use these as proof of your abilities in an interview. 2.) network - call your competitors - indicate that you'd be willing to help them during the Christmas rush - and then inventory,- do this on a second shift or parttime basis. If they like you - they may keep you. 3) call the state unemployment/jobs center. A change to a unacceptable wage due to a work slowdown may quality for benefits - at least check into the openings they know of. 4) show initiative, if this is not a punitive demotion, use this as an opportunity to tell others that you saw the writing on the wall and need to check out some other industries. That's enough for now

I had 8 years of retail management experience and I had a hard time getting out of retail.
The problem is that people see that as an unskilled profession for people who are not very intelligent. I had to get an MBA and start at a very low position in a payroll loan company to get out. This is my experience and it may not reflect what may happen to you. I would suggest that you start looking ASAP and tell everyone what you are looking for. It helps to know what you want in addition to what you don't want.

Hi again. OK, really, you really, really need to read, "What Color is Your Parachute." It's one of the best selling books of all time, and it's been around for 30 years, but it's updated every year. I guarantee the library will have a copy, as will any good bookstore. Reading it will tell you the answer to all your questions about work. I mean it. You've been asking the same questions week after week, but it seems like you don't really do anything about your concerns. You don't seem to have any motion, just asking over and over again and periodically considering school. Really, read this book, it will tell you what you need to know.
