LOL I love Family Guy. I think the content of these shows are way over the heads of children. I think most kids don't even know what most of the content means. Parents: the biggest corruptor of children are their PARENTS! Maybe it's easier to blame a cartoon or show when your kids act up than blaming yourself. Don't ya think?
Bring on the thumbs down!

I know people will yell at me but yes I do. I tell my children they can watch anything they want or listen to any kid of music they want. Now if they repeat anything they hear while watching and listening to these then they get to watch the shows I choose. This means lots of PBS specials. Now my kids are smart so they only watch it once a week this way they are less likely to repeat things. so far we have not had a problem, but this is just how I deal with it.

I presume you meant "or", not "of".
Also, I don't have any kids, so I hope that doesn't automatically discount my opinion (I can't imagine why you'd want to limit the responses as such; i.e., what difference does it make if we have a 9-year old or not?). I also note that you didn't specifically say that you have a 9-year old, so I presume this is a generic, though oddly focused question (again, why just 9-year olds? why didn't you say, "pre-teen"?).
Regardless, no, I would not let a pre-teen watch either of those programs.
First, both programs are well beyond a pre-teen's bedtime.
Second, most of the humor is profane, and would not be understood by youngsters, who would probably get bored of it (on the other hand, that's a good reason to let them watch it, eh?). ;) Granted, old cartoons such as "Bugs Bunny" and "Beanie and Cecil" had "adult" humor, it was so subtle that even most adults didn't get it!
Third, both programs have gone downhill, recently, riding solely on their reputation to stay on the air (i.e., reality programs and adult cartoons are the leaders of the Nielsen ratings, which most networks are loathe to give up, even though most aren't worth the cels or computers they are created on!).
Fourth, the characters and situations are sometimes violent, which, even for some adults, may be excessive.
I don't have a counter-argument (i.e., you asked for "both sides"), except to say, it's up to each parent to decide what's good for their kids, though, in this case, I would seriously question the wisdom of any parent who would allow their pre-teens to watch these particular programs.
P.S. If you're the 9-year old in question: tough luck, kiddo! ;)

I don't have kids but you would have to be INSANE to let your 9 year old watch either of the shows but esp. South Park. I think they are adult cartoons which is confusing to some. I bete there are tons of parents out there who don't even realize what they are saying in those shows and they think it's okay because it's animated. Ironically, South Park is about boys around that age though! I'm 34 and I love both shows. I'm an adult though. Some people think that you must have a low IQ to enjoy those shows but I disagree! Do you watch the shows? To answer your question again though, HELL NO IT'S NOT ALRIGHT TO LET THEM WATCH THOSE SHOW S!

NOOOOOO! South Park is rated R in my opinion. Family Guy, The Simpson's too. My ex friend watches it and started talking really, really bad words like motha******. If I had kids 9 years old I would so not let them. It also teaches kids to curse in front of teachers (cousin told me). Do what you want but be careful on what your child says to people.

NO WAY! Those shows are vulgar and are filled with "adult content and language". Its not suitable for a 9 year old at all. My children are younger than 9, but they still aren't allowed to watch it. I also don't allow any of the cartoons that are on cartoon network. That channel is filled with idiocy! I don't even like it when my husband watches that crap.

No way! Would you let your 9 year old watch an R rated film containing nudity, violence, death, prostitution, and horrible language? They're the same topics covered in those shows.
Personally I love them but they are far to adult for a 9 year old.

I dont let my 12 1/2 year old watch it either. I think they both are grown up shows with topics that young children dont need to see!
