Do to the fact of global warming and tax payers are paying for that gas. He might be in there all day or should I just throw the keys in a trash dumpster?

I think you should definitely turn the car off and take the keys to the officer. There should be more concerned citizens such as yourself.

I'm a K9 officer and I often leave my locked car running to keep the dog cool. Go ahead. Break into my car and try to take the keys. I'm sure my dog would love the company. But before you try it, make sure your mommy has a picture of you so she can remember what you looked like. And after you get out of the hospital you can have a nice siesta at the jail, charged with felonious larceny from a motor vehicle. If the dog dies from overheating since you turned the car off, you'll also tote a felony charge for that.
And just so you'll know, I've been a cop over 29 years and have never allowed my car to be seen at a donut shop.

Their secret ingredient is called "Copium". It only affects those wearing a certified "cop" emblem on their uniforms; hence, that's why there are so many in there all times day and night. So you don't have to worry about the neighborhood kids eating those donuts. You just have to worry about the mayhem that might be created because the streets, businesses, etc. are not being patrolled adequately.

You are asking the right person as I know for a fact you would be asked what you are doing then after you toss the keys in the trash that is vandalism to City property. More hassle than it is worth.

You could tell the cop that he left his car running.But I wouldn't try to shut it off.You would get in big trouble.And don't be throwing away the keys either.
