in this article, this woman "credits god" for stopping a shooter from killing even more people. well, does that mean god is responsible for letting the guy kill those people? why didn't god get someone else to stop him BEFORE he killed those people??? why does god get credit for stopping the shooter after killing people, but doesn't get the blame for letting those people get killed, ESPECIALLY since those people were killed in god's own home (the church)?????

God really needs to work on showing up on time for these kinds of events. God seems to be tardy for things such as mass murders, abductions, child abuse, war . . desperate prayers notwithstanding . .

It is a simple, delusional mental block that all theists have. Most often, they intentionally do it to themselves.
"Give God all credit for the good things, and none of the bad."
The human brain tends to seek out and recognize patterns. We just can't help it. But the patterns aren't necessarily real. A study was done a while back where two groups were instructed to complete a maze on a computer. One group used a program that assigned a certain number of points to the player for doing certain things in a certain way. The other group used a program that gave points in a completely random manner.
Both groups were asked to identify the point pattern. The first group correctly identified the pattern used by the program. The second group also identified patterns, but there was no pattern.
This is the explanation for people who say they can recognize evidence of God. It is only because they want to.
It is the same trap that frauds like Uri Geller and other hoaxsters use to convince people.
The Amazing Randi, who has exposed Geller and many other supposed paranormals, once recorded a show where a "psychic" gave a reading. He later encountered one of the people who were given a reading by the psychic. This guy was completely convinced of the psychic's powers, and cited his accuracy as evidence. Randi interviewed the guy and recorded it. He then compared, with the subject present, what he said in Randi's interview with what information the psychic gave him. The subject embellished the accuracy and specificity of what were actually vague and usually inaccurate statements made by the psychic. The subject wasn't lying to give the psychic credibility. He was just open to it. He wanted it to be true so bad that he invented ways to make it more plausable.
In actuall comparison to the psychic's predictions compared to what the subject actually confirmed, the psychic only hit the mark one out of fourteen times. That is horrible.
But people still believe in fairies, too. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who created the fictional Sherlock Holmes, was a firm believer in the existance of fairies and gnomes. He investigated several reportings of fairies, including one in which actual photos were taken of them, and declared them authentic. They were all phony and fabricated.
Just like God. And people believe in him for the same reasons. They just want to.

Personally, I'd credit the person who said that God stopped the shooter for stopping the shooter. She's the one who risked her life.

I was thinking the same thing.
This morning on channel five they had an interview with a witness, he said he had combat training and tried to get a gun to shoot the kid but the other security guard wouldn't give him a gun. So he jumped out and called the kid a coward to distract him, and it worked, he got shot in the arm. THen this security girl walks toward the kid, no cover, like she was walking down the street. THe witness said he was screaming at her to take cover, she was screaming at the kid to give up while she kept shooting. The kid went down, dropped a gun, the witness picked it up.
He told her to take a head shot. The girl looked up at him and shook her head and said no he is dead, then the whole god speil. God guided her blah blah blah.
I would have took the head shot.

True. God could have just as easily caused the shooter's mother to miscarry way back when and saved a lot of people a lot of misery. But I guess all those deaths must be part of God's mysterious "plan".

God allows certain amount of evil to happen. Like a dog on a leash, it can only go so far. God is not responsible. We are the ones responsible. It is evil enough when "Good" people do nothing.

It's kind of like divorce -- anything the kids do right is a credit to the mother, all the bad things come from the father. (at least that works for me)

Well obviously whoever got shot because of the shooter really deserved it. See how fun and easy it is to come up with excuses for God? Are we not God's enablers or what?

Suddenly this woman has the low-down on what God does and doesn't do?
I just love it when people give God credit for random stuff - good or bad. I guess I'm just jealous because he didn't tell me he did it too!

The wonders of double standards and an absent god whose actions may never be criticized. Sounds like a wonderful recipe for dogma.
