They are both lovely places. However, there is always a little place in my heart for the Isle of Wight.
I love all of the Island and have been a very good few times to date. Of course it will be very cold but it is beautiful.
Sandown, Shanklin, Cowes, Yarmouth and Ryde to name a few.
It is a "pleasant" Island with no "riff raff", calm and peaceful - the bars are lively if you enjoy a drink or 2. The scenery is fabulous and the people are very pleasant.
Which ever you decide have lots of fun and enjoy yourself.
Compliments of the season too.......xxx

Personally in winter time Dorset. If you stayed in Bournemouth or Poole in Dorset for example and the weather is bad you'd have all the urban facilities at your disposal. You are close to beautiful countryside as well: The New Forest National Park is close to Bournemouth; a ferry ride away from Poole is the delightful Brownsea Island owned by the National Trust; also close to Poole and Wareham in Dorset is Corfe Castle. You could also base yourself further west in Dorset in the town of Lyme Regis, a perfect destination if you like coastal scenery. This area is called the 'Jurassic Coast' and has wonderful rocks, caves and beaches full of weird and wonderful shells.

Either are nice, but Dorset would be simpler for travelling to and from - no ferries/hovercrafty which can be subject to bad weather delays. Where in Dorset do you have in mind
