I guess this question is directly towards America in general, but basically 1st world societies. It's very evident and clear to me, just from simple observation of our society that nearly everything is about planing, technology, business, money, getting from point A to point B, task oriented, workaholic. Everything. You're in school 24/7, or work 24/7, and if you're not doing anything at all with your time, you're considered crazy, depressed, or a "loser."

Everything is a business. At least in America. And, as much as these businesses sell you the illusion of happiness, success, beauty, etc, at the end they only care about the bottom line: the dollar.

So my questions are,

1)Why especially America, have we chosen to accept this lifestyle and pursue it?

2)Is there a different approach to this life, where we're basically statistics, serving the dollar and the govt?

3)Where the hell does GOD fit into any of this? I think it's laughable. Look around you. God = not here.

God seems to exist only in our heads, as "he, she, it," obviously plays no role in natural physical objective reality, or is behind the driving force of many businesses or education oriented pursuits.

IT's so self-evident to me, yet there are people out there who find God in everything.

I think that's delusional.

Can you find God in Algebra, or Banking?

I personally wish life had more meaning and there was a God, but all our society is doing is:

1)promoting intellectualism, materialism and atheism

2)destroying any divine sense or purpose: mind/body/soul, etc. Its basically to people here, ALL mind and body, minus the "soul."

It's just discouraging to me, to think that I'm just another piece of "meat," expendable, disposable, and doesn't matter.

I refuse to lead my life this way.

God is not here because we've removed him. We've resolved ourselves to Worldly Success, and instituted a system of government which if in the wrong hands makes it considerably easy to take advantage of its people. Short of a second Civil War, what do you expect us to do? Most Americans have been indoctrinated since birth with our Consumer driven, instant gratificational society. If you do not take steps to remove yourself from it, and recognize that there is a better life to be had, you can't make such a choice. That's the great thing about America, for now anyway, that if you don't subscribe to our society, you are more than welcome to leave. But while here, you are certainly comparable to a serf of the Middle Ages. Our society is a product of Capitalism and selfishness(Give a dog a bone). As long as everyone thinks their happy, they won't question it. The illusion of wealth has replaced true wealth in many of the less educated citizens. Makes sense why Education isn't a focus of our Government, doesn't it? I could go on for ever, but I think this gets my main point across. Make your own choice, if you truly want to abandon organized society it is within your grasp if you want it badly enough.

From people that actually have lots of money and are in business because of their learning. Most of the one I know and have meet, which is around a thousand people. They tell me God must go first, actually study the bible do not just read it. It is not a book to be read literally. Family is second and Business is third, if you do this and work hard who will become financially successful. You can talk with God any time and anywhere, I mostly talk to him in my car. Anyone that tells you to put money in front of God or your Family is not telling you the best information. My old job was like that and I was miserable. To answer your questions 1. to have the best lifestyle possible 2. I serve god, family, business - if I make more money I get to improve my families lifestyle, I forget about the gov. 3. he is anywhere and everywhere, not just in a church ( a building)

1) Not all of us have chosen to accept that lifestyle and pursue it. My husband and I live frugally. We tithe and donate to charity. We base our marriage on the Bible and live a God focused life. It's a choice that you make and that can be made in any society or any lifestyle.

2) Yes, you make the choice of how to approach life. The government doesn't decide for you. You have free choice and can decide how you live.

3) God fits in to everything. He is always here and can be seen in many peoples' lives and actions. You just have to look around. The kindness that people exhibit towards each other, etc. are examples of God's presence.

We have chosen this realistic lifestyle in order to survive. If we had just sat around and prayed to some deity then we would be in the same situation as so many third world countries are in.

My hope is that we never become a theocracy such as Iran. You are probably right. God is not here. Perhaps that is why we enjoy a higher standard of living than most people in this world.

In the midst of Armageddon, we are deterred from teh path of salvation by chaining the collective soul to the grindstone. We work, sleep, consume. Opting out is not an option if you have bills to pay. So the remedy is to enjoy working, coexisting, interacting, facing life challenges rather than fearing or despising them. We are here in the world. We cant readily or easily leave. So we make life as pleasurable as possible, deriving as much joy from each moment, each act, each person as possible, changing what we can, discarding what we can. 'We are as happy, healthy and wealthy as we allow OURSELVES to be'. You may deride this statement but file it in your syche and you will find that I am right. Peace, borne of an understanding of the workings of the world, the mind and our part in it. Life is more or less constant in its banality, It is our mental and emmotional level of immunity to the rough times that determine how happy and peaceful we are. Emotionally strong days can spar and take all of lifes knocks courageously. On weaker days of lowered emotional immunity we become overtly sensitive to matters we would find onconsequential or negligible ...understanding that is determines lifes success or failure.

the america you describe is not my america. I love my job, it is my contribution to the world. I travel, i meet people, learn different cultures, enjoy arts and architecture, theater, music, concerts, cinema. It's amazing, i go skydiving, play sports, surf, snorkel etc. I try new things all the time. My next travel trip is to brazil to see the amazon and enjoy the prevalent water sports and learn the culture. That is my life.
god does not factor in. Why do you expect him or her to? i thought believers in god continue to chim in that you cannot understand god with your human mind etc. If your life is what you describe above, then get out of your house because there's a lot much more to life than what you describe

you can create your own meaning.Volunteer for something like habitat for humanity or whatever else, it will be not for $$ and you will create relationships to other people. Or you can create art, music, play theater. You can join a gardening club or you can join a religious group. It's up to you to go out and do something else. If you do this, you will also hang out with people who don't subscribe to the world view you describe.
As a first step you could throw out your television set, you will gain a lot of time for other things, and you will shut off a big channel for commercial indoctrination.
If you want it or not, you are part of society and it's up to you to change society by changing yourself.

You are confusing what the society is about with what LIFE is about.

Life is about relationships. With God. With ourselves....with others, both relationally and those we don't know.

You need to stop focusing on the surface and look at what is REALLY at the heart of everything. Even business is about relationships, if you want to get technical.

Don't fool yourself. God is everywhere. Just because you choose to let the smog of the culture block His face out from you and you choose not to go seeking Him, don't mistake that for His true absence.

Hebrews 13:5 . . . God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Because people are greedy, They want the things they want and then if they have time they will give a Sunday to Jesus...

This scripture reminds me of what your saying...
Matthew 6:24, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
