American socialite, Jennie Jerome (1854-1921), was born in Brooklyn, New York, the second of four daughters of Leonard Jerome, a financier, sportsman, and speculator, and his wife, Clarissa Hall, a daughter of a New York Assemblyman, Ambrose Hall.
The first Jerome in America was a French Huguenot, Timothy Jerome, who came to the American colonies about 1717. Jennie married Lord Randolph Churchill, the third son of the Duke of Marlborough, at the British Embassy in Paris in 1874, and the future Prime Minister was born at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire eight months later. Through her marriage, Jennie acquired the title of Lady Randolph Churchill as well as British citizenship.
