from a muslim's perspective, every prophet was a muslim ( since they believed in the one true God, Allah...which is the same god for Christians and Jews)
In the Quran, this is what is said about jesus
"Thereupon she pointed to him. They said, 'How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?' Jesus said, 'I am a servant of ALLAH. HE has given me the Book, and has made me a Prophet; 'And HE has made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and has enjoined upon me Prayer and almsgiving so long as I live; 'And HE has made me dutiful towards my mother, and has not made me arrogant and graceless; 'And peace was on me the day I was born, and peace will be on me the day I shall die, and the day I shall be raised up to life again.' That was Jesus, son of Mary. This is a statement of the truth concerning which they entertain doubt." -- Qur'an, Surah 19:30-35

First of all those paintings are not the most accurate source of information. I highly doubt there were halos on everyone's heads. Jesus was a Jew, Look at Matthew 1. Jews did live in the Middle East, but that doesn't make them Muslim. Islam and the term "Muslim" didn't appear for another 700 years. It is a false religion that is never mentioned in scriptures. Many people have tried to even distort some passages from the prophets to help validate Islam, but at best it is a stretch. No, Jesus was not a Muslim.

as an ex christian this was a hard thing to change thinkings about Jesus not being a Jew I was confused and asked about it on here and this was my response I hope it helps clear things up as it helped me... an yes Jesus was a Muslim because if you think about it if he where around now he wouldn't fit in with christians or jews he would fit in with Muslims. an it even states in the bible that when Jesus prayed that he prostrated which is what we do we bow down.
Jesus was sent to Jews to take them back to the right religion which is the Islam [ Islam is to believe in Allah as the only God ] so he was one of the Jews sent to take their hands back to the real Judaism which is Islam , the people who followed him were Muslims , really believed in god but they were called Christians then the people started changing believes and some did make up things , until every thing went down in the year 300 after that Allah sent Mohamed [ this time not only for Jews or Christians but for the whole world ] to take the whole humanity back to the real religion , Abraham's religion the Islamic religion .
and when jesus will come again he will pray with the muslims , but he will not be the emam cz he will be one of the muslims
an here is what I asked you can read my question and the responses :)

Each Prophet came for a certain group or people. For Jesus, it was the Jews. Though Muslims also believe in Jesus. As a muslim we believe in all prophets as they all preached the same message, To believe in ONE GOD!. Muslims. The veil and clothing was all the same in them times, Jewish, Christian and Muslim women all wore simular types of clothing as this was too a comandment from God, to dress modestly and wear the veil. Christians do not follow this comand today, im not sure of jewish women, but i do know that Muslim women today still were the veil and dress modestly. The Quran mentiones Jesus 500% more then Mohammed (peace be upon them both). There is also a beautiful verse named after Mary. Theres is the birth of Jesus mentioned and many of his miricles.

Jesus is purported to have been born over 600 years before Mohamed whose writings ranked Jesus as another prophet.
Mohamed died in the year 632 AD.
Illustrators have simply assumed that the ancient Near East populations dressed as they do now. Sadly, we have no contemporary photos of the principal figures in all that yarn, but the Wise Men may have been attired rather more after the style of Tebetan monks. Wise men generally dress down pretty much.

Well, as a Muslim, I'll add my two cents here.
First off, if Jesus was the king only to the Jews, why does the Vatican worship and venerate him? Don't they know he's not for them? Islam gives a 100% different aspect on religion... Jesus, Abraham, Moses and Muhammad are not for any specific tribe or bloodline, but, as the Quran says, for all mankind. It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, who your parents were; if you accept Islam as your religion, you are Muslim.
Second, given the definition of Muslim (one who submits to the will of God), we Muslims do believe that Jesus, Abraham, even Adam were Muslims by definition. Although Islam didn't come until after Jesus, these prophets still submitted to the will of God, and are essentially Muslims.
Here are some links regarding the view of Jesus in Islam...hope they help:

Your question can be answered in two ways. First, there was no "Islam" at the time in the sense of the revelation proclaimed by the Prophet Muhammad in the 6th century after Christ. Jesus was a Jewish man who revealed God's will in a new revelation and "founded' Christianity.
The second answer is that "muslim" is simply the Arabic word for one who surrenders fully to God. In that sense, Jesus did surrender unto God and revealed His will; therefore Jesus was "one who surrendered" or a muslim. The Holy Qur'an (the sacred book of Islam) calls the earler Messengers, such as Jesus and Abraham "muslims" - meaning those who surrendered to God.
So Jesus was Jewish, not a Muslim in the sense of one who was a member of the religion of Islam (since Muhammad hadn't revealed it yet). But Jesus was a "muslim" in the sense of one who surrendered himself to God.

Oh purleeeeeaseee....
Jesus was a practising Jew. Only the Romans ever named him 'king of the Jews', the Jews never referred to him as this.
Jesus lived and died a practising Jew. There are enough references to his praying and preaching in the synagogue for us to know that he was Jewish. As Islam did not exist during his life, HOW could Jesus have possibly been Muslim???
As for your remark about Jesus 'creating' Christianity - you are mistaken. Christianity evolved decades after the death of Jesus. Jesus died a practising Jew: Judaism was the only religion he never knew and ever practised.
It was people such as Paul who founded Christianity; and Paul never even met Jesus!
Jesus never said anything about a 'new' covenant or about Judaic law being 'set aside'. Why would G-d, after making an eternal covenant with the Jews, suddenly reverse this loyalty and recant on the very laws He instigated? It is not even remotely logical.
The only people currently following the same faith as Jesus did, are the Jews.

Peace and blessings be upon you
According to the time ,
Moses came at first then the Jesus then Mohammed ,the last prophet.
"Islam"..as a word in arabic means :submission to the God and only worship him and none other than him.
This means that before the birth of Mohammed and presence of Quran , there was Muslims ,who worshiped the God as the one ,The creator.
The Quran told us about the prophets and asked us to believe in them .
i am as a muslim believe in the Jesus ,the prophet of the God and his miracle as Adam without father , and his mother is from the greatest women in the world.
About her clothes , she was wearning as what should the woman wear to keep her femininty and value and her honor.

Jesus was Jewish. There were no muslims then. The traditions you mention are Jewish and middle eastern not muslim. In the Koran, Jesus was a prophet. Nothing fishy here except the Romans claiming Jesus as King of the Jews.
