This might seem trite, but it's the one that you like best for the amount of money you're willing to spend.

Just as you can't tell what stereo speakers you like best without listening to them side-by-side, you can't tell which HDTV you like best until you watch them side-by-side. And, you might think that the picture on a cheaper model is just fine, and you see no difference between that one and a top brand that costs twice the price. Or, you might notice a definite difference and it's worth paying the extra money for it.

For the esoteric models, however, the top-of-the-line Pioneer plasma is "the best" on the market. For more affordability, I think the Sony Bravia LCDs have the best picture for the cost. I wasn't too impressed by the difference between the Bravia and the XBR. So, it wasn't worth it to me to spend the extra several hundred dollars to get an XBR.

Many seem to feel that Pioneer Kuro Plasmas are the best. However they are much more expensive. I compromised and bought a Panasonic plasma.
