Hello, Birdy:
I was in the same condition as you for many years. Yet I knew people had rational reasons to believe. Perhaps the problem was me!
I knew if He existed, I would serve Him unflinchingly, but the problem was the world. You see, I fit into it so comfortably, and loved the sex, smut, violence on t.v.
But God can change all that, and make you hevenly minded, and He gives ample evidence for you to hang your faith on.
First, there are about 300 prohecies and symbols in the O.T. pointing to Christ's coming. Some prove His divinity and mission, others predict the exact day of His baptism and crucifixion. For a start. read the Bible code at http://abiblecode.tripod.com. It will identify Antichrist and Messiah.
Also, in God's strength, you can learn to love heaven more than this hell. So begin by asking Him. He who sacrificed His Equal will never forsake you.
Also, if you have any personal questions, I'd love to communicate by e-mail.
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

No promises, but to say the least, if you'd like some logical and rational explanations of many of the Biblical Scriptures you might try reading the Urantia Papers. They explain many of the happenings within the Bible with better articulation and explanation than that given in the Bible. It's author is unknown, it could be Dr. William Sadler, but either way it may open your mind to new lines of reasoning. Make up your own mind, but this may broaden your outlook.
They have the book in mp3 format as well if you'd prefer to listen rather than read.
Your question seems to lack sincerity, but I hope this helps you nonetheless.
There is no Hell, there is only personality extinction. (as though you were never born)

Seems like the question you should be asking yourself is "Why should I make myself believe in god? or - why would you want to make yourself believe in anything?
Shouldn't your beliefs be based upon some reasoning? Rather than just picking some particular belief? Like god for example? If you're gong to do that, what about believing in the legend of the mermaids?

youve made the first step.... don't you think that the rite of envoking a name enough will make it true? The atheists spend so much time trying to denounce God and religion that the actually spend more time than the religious right talking about it. Good job...

You can't, really.
You can choose to learn more about religions, attend services, pray to whatever might be "out there", and talk to people. But you can't really choose to be convinced by any of it.
In my experience, though, the more you learn about religion, the less likely you are to be convinced by any of it. If you don't have the severe indoctrination as a child, it is rather unlikely. Still, it has happened, and late converts tend to be the most fundamentalist sort. That's because you really need some kind of emotional investment in the idea to get past all the nonsense.

Wait until you are 40. You will get enough sense to see the blessings of God. You will realize that there is a Superior power which takes care of us. Without God's help, we are nothing.
You will start feeling a vacuume in your self. We all need His mercy to survive. Then you will call HIm from depth of your
heart and will learn to belive in Him.

You need to have an experience (revelation) of God.
The Bible asks us to have faith, but that does not mean that we can not understand or experience some things of God here and now, we are to have faith for those things that are for latter (like eternal life).
I suggest calling several Pentecostal or Apostolic churches in your area. Ask them if they have anyone in their church that has the gift of prophecy (or healing if you have a need), if they do no have any one ask if they know of another church where there is such a gift present (a person may have the gift of prophecy but it may not be working in them all the time). So you may have to try several churches (and people) to get an work from God for you.

Everyone can believe, and it is a choice that you have to be ready to make changes in your life to make room for God. I'm not saying that you have to get down on your kneas right now in pray. Though God certainly will hear you, you can't pray if you don't understand that God is listening and cares about you. The best way to come to God is if you start going to church (Catholic or Lutheran take you pick). You can try to read the bible til your blue in the face, but the only way it'll make sense to you and apply it to life is if you go to church and have someone explain it for you.

No.
One man-made tradition is that "good people go to heaven when they die and bad people go to hell when they die."
This is taught generation after generation, parent to child, in hopes of scaring someone into being good. But, it doesn't work, does it?
Isn't it time we transcended the fables of childhood?
No one has gone to heaven except the Son of man (John 3:13).
And hell?

Where are the people who have died?
They are in their graves!
"Marvel not at this, for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation" (John 5:28-29).
The King James "damnation" is from the Greek word "krisis" meaning separating and contesting.
The "contesting" takes place in a second physical life after the 1000 years. The vast majority of mankind is not being called now. They are neither lost nor saved.
Some of the ones who are "contesting" in the future will still not repent. And they will cease to exist. The ones who do repent will be given eternal life. The promise from God through Christ is eternal life, not heaven.
People in this life who have already repented will be given bodies that do not die (1 Corinthians 15:52-54). The same thing will happen to people called later. They will have their chance for salvation at that time. Most will embrace it and thereby secure eternal life for themselves.
Life is a test. But that's another story.

Why would you want to change that? If you are such a non-believer, then why would you want to fake it? I think you are curious. You can't make yourself believe. It is something that you feel. It isn't a decision of the mind but the heart.
