Anyone read a good book lately? Something similar to "A Mom Just Like You" would be nice. A combination of burnout mixed with some other personal stuff has got me discouraged. Any suggestions?

Refugio: I was simply asking for new books to read. I believe what I am doing is best; I won't give up at a rough spot. It’s a commitment and a way of life in our family. I would hope others wouldn't give up so quickly.

I really enjoyed a few books - one
A Patchwork of Days by Nancy VanLande
Family Man ministrys (Todd Wilson) has a few comic books (seriously!) that are very funny and lighten up your heart. One of those "Wow! Other homeschool Moms feel this way too!"

I'd also suggest a Moms night out with some other homeschooling mom friends/acquaintances. Go to a cafe and just hang out and chat. You'll feel so much better~!

Hang in there, we ALL have bad times!

Well I'm not a homeschool mom... I am a homeschool dad.

But last year I did experience a good case of burnout!

If you are married, ask dad to take a day off of work or a Saturday if that works better and have him be the teacher for a day.

This will give you a break and will assist your mate in appreciating just how hard you work.

I did this last year with my wife and once with grandma. Both said afterwards that they had no idea how much work went into just a single day of homeschooling!

Just that little extra bit of empathy from those close to me helped a lot.

When I start to feel burn-out coming up I declare a field trip day. We'll go to a museum, nature preserve, etc.... and do some hands on learning in a fun way. Sometimes just a quick walk before school will lift the mood and help everyone focus- including mom!

Just try to break up the routine! A change of scenery or schedule can bring new life into your homeschool!

You are in my prayers. By the way, we all get burn-out occasionally. Homeschooling isn't always fun. There are days that i don't feel like doing it. Just keep going- it'll get better! Above all don't beat yourself up. We are not "super moms". We are just moms who teach our own kids. We will have good days and bad days. God's grace will get you through this rough patch!

You have received several good book suggestions. I would like to offer suggestions that would help you avoid burnout all together. You need to take care of yourself. Enjoy a date with your husband or a moms night with friends. Send your hubby and kids out for the evening and you stay in and read a good book or take an uninterupted bubble bath. Take time for yourself!

Try the Ministry of Motherhood. It is a great book on how to keep going, etc.
