Depending on the type of OCD there are several options of treatment

1. using your own thoughts to combat the OCD
2. medication
3. you can write down the obsessions you are having on paper

If the OCD is severe to the point where you have no control over it you need medication. The medication doesn't completely stop OCD however it weakens the severity of the obsessive thoughts and allows you to combat the obsessions with your own thoughts.

You can use you own thoughts to combat the OCD by using a short, powerful, simple phrase.

For example if the obsession is a reoccuring worry you can think to yourself "it's all in your head" or "it's way out of proportion its just OCD you don't need to worry about it." Anything that has a strong effect on you works well. After you do this you can do something distracting to take your mind off the obsession

Another strategy you can use is to make the obsessive thought so out of proportion you realise how ridiculous your being and you stop worrying. For example you may have an obssessional thought that a flood is going to come and wash your house away. If so you can exagerrate the thought and think to yourself "yes it's really going to happen, a flood going to come and its going to come and wipe out my house and the entire country" conitinue exagerrating thinking then it will wipe out the entire earth and the universe will cease to exist take it as far as you want to untill you can realise how stupid and out of proportion your original thought was and you stop worrying.

Ofcourse there are more types of OCD then reoccuring thoughts there is also obsessions with

* Asking for assurances
* Avoiding places or situations
* Cleaning
* Counting
* Doing certain tasks slowly and deliberately
* Doubting and checking, e.g., locks, lights, and ovens
* Hoarding possessions
* Ordering or arranging
* Repeating behaviors, including speech and action
* Washing, e.g., excessive hand-washing or bathing

If you are afraid of touching an item or going somewhere becaue of OCD you can also use a powerful thought. One that works well is the nike motto "just do it" When your afraid of touching something becuase of germs or whatever ridiculous reason think in your head "just do it" this simple thought can give you the ability to overcome your obsessions.

Though OCD is a chronic disease it is possible to control it but it takes alot of hard work and practice and it can get the better of you in the worst of times. If OCD is effecting your daily life and work, social life, sports etc. then you should immediately seek the help of a physchiatrist, the sooner the better.

OCD is extremely frustrating and it can ruin your life if you don't act. So don't be afraid to talk to family or friends about your issues.

Here's a video I found on youtube from someone suffering from OCD. It talks about the effect OCD has on people and how you can't give up hope.

I hope i've helped you out. Don't allow OCD to rule your life and don't give up hope. It may take time and hard work but you can overcome OCD.

tell him to change his thought if he wants to get rid of it. OCD is caused by extremely abnormal thoughts without the individual being aware of such
