The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: “Every child is born on fitra (or innate sound nature) and his parents make him a Jew, a Christian or a fire worshipper.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Many people ask me how a preacher or priest in Christianity can ever go to Islam, especially considering all the negative things that we hear about Islam and Muslims everyday. Some people are simply curious, while others take a profound exception to my “conversion” to Islam. Some have asked how I could have turned my back on Jesus, or if I truly understood the Holy Ghost, and some even questioned whether or not I considered myself as “born again” or had ever really been saved at all. These are good questions to which I will offer answers to at the end of this writing. I would like to thank everyone for their interest and offer my humble story, God Willing.

One very nice Christian gentleman asked me in email why and how I left Christianity for Islam. This is more or less a copy of the letter I sent to him.

My road to Shahadah began when an admired director, Tony Richardson, died of AIDS. Mr. Richardson was already a brilliant and internationally recognized professional when I almost met him backstage at the play Luther at age 14.

Playwriting for me has always been a way of finding degrees of spiritual and emotional reconciliation, both within myself and between myself and a world I found rather brutal due to childhood circumstances. Instead of fighting with the world, I let my conflicts fight it out in my plays. Amazingly, some of us have even grown up together!

So, as I began accumulating stage credits (productions and staged readings), beginning at age 17, I always retained the hope that I would someday fulfill my childhood dream of studying and working with Mr. Richardson. When he followed his homosexuality to America (from England) and a promiscuous community, AIDS killed him, and with him went another portion of my sense of belonging to and within American society.

The Truth in Islam is very clear . It's message seems very logical. Muslims believe in Prophet Jesus , Moses and All other prophets and the final prophet , Prophet Muhammad .

The beauty of Islam which attracts is its completeness. It covers all aspects of life. It is a nice religion due to its Just laws and its logical beliefs.
Hypocrites always try to defame Islam but it is goodness of Islam that enters the hearts. Nobody accepts any religion on gunpoint.

The hadith doesn't say they are converts of reverts, they are Muslims and let leave it at that. The deen al-fitra/the primordial faith is the belief in God/Allah and all a person does its uncover his belief again.

Hmm, I think it happened when I awoke one day to the sounds of screams and I looked outside my hut and saw my village being burned. I was then thrown out of my home and into the town square where I was forced to my knees. Some guy, too cowardly to show his face was holding a gun to my head while his friend was dispatching my neighbor next to me. I figured I might as well save my life so I "converted" to Islam. After they left I picked up what was left of my life, subtracting my way of life of course.
