In our society, it's a lot harder to acheive the isolation and inwardness that many Christian societies had for centuries--exposure to new ideas appeals to kids, and of course they would be interested in having more freedom, once they become aware that it is available.

Not making a positive or negative value judgement on Christianity--but I think that we, as a society, are much less likely to sacrifice anything at all--so any entity (God) that requires anything unpleasant or restrictive of us is not going to be appetizing to this generation.

That is a good question. But the bible is clear...there will come "a great falling away".
We are in the latter days. Tribulation is just around the corner, the Great Tribulation..and there will be troubles as the world has never seen before. There will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth...crying,"let the stones fall on us"..praying for death and none will come. It will be a time of great suffering and sorrow. Thank God we Christians will not be here.

It's clearly prophesied in the Bible. In the last days (which may be hundreds of years from now), Christians will be hated, tortured, and scorned. (Some countries are doing it now and have been for thousands of years.) Many will come saying they are Christians but won't have the truth in them. These will cause upheavals and hate rather than teaching with gentle reproofs. So, those who do not believe, will assume all Christians are like these deceivers. Those who do not want to obey the law (the Ten Commandments) and who have become "lovers of themselves", will fight tooth and nail to rid the world of the gospel of Christ.

As the world gets more and more evil, it isn't "popular" to be a Christian , NOT A REAL ONE, because a real Christian Jesus lover lives by the level of truth that Jesus did, & our world is quickly slipping into a more and more evil atmosphere, think about it, If someone gets unhappy, they go to the mall/college, church & just shoot people. That never ever used to happen. So as the "end times" close in just like the Bible says, things are going to get very very ugly here on earth and to remain very close to God is going to take huge FAITH, to be persecuted, yes, shot, I am not surprised at all those people were shot at church, that is what happens in 3rd world countries and the USa surely isn't getting closer to God, so yes, I would think we will see many more shootings of Christians/church goers and all, we will be persecuted like this and much much worse. The disciples, many were beheaded, why not us ? the more evil the world gets, the gate to heaven is narrow and it is getting narrower all the time as people who say they believe in Jesus, follow the world, they desire earthly goodies far beyond heavenly things, spiritual things, and in doing so, THEY ARE NOT NOT NOT living like Jesus, and that is our goal as Christians. what God says in the Bible is exactly what He means. Read it, make it REAL TODAY, and then you may see. Who wants to be a Christian if it means you are going to be persecuted/shot/beheaded ????????

The only thing worse than a silly question is?

Perhaps it is one that presupposes a LIE...
----------The growth rate of Christianity, according to the U.S. Center for World Mission, is very close to the growth rate of the world's population. The percentage of Christians in the world has remained almost constant for decades..

As with many atheists, they believe all the little things they hear, never delving into the subject on their own.

Good question. I don't think Christianity will ever fade out, because truth will ultimately prevail. Presently, in our society, it's politically correct to discuss any other religion of "ism," but Christians are mocked. I often wish we had better spokesmen when issues are addressed, but not many times are true Christians even invited into the debate. I'm referring to televised discussions. Keep the faith. Bless you.

It's an old religion and it's myth symbols don't satisfy as many folks as they once did--plus the referrences made to particular situations are cryptic by today's standards (nobody that I know winnows grains, leavens bread or carries water from a spring--or for that matter combs flax or patches their clothes--hence alot of the sayings are kind of lost on the newer generations). To stay popular ya gotta keep up with the times!

That and the fact that the "jig is up"--face it most folks just aren't so willing to believe that a man rose three days after he died, and then was sucked up into outer space--or that a serpent told a chic to eat an apple after she was made from a rib of a dude who was originally made from a ball of dirt! Either way I say it's time to consign the whole faith to the category of mythology.

They don't understand how if there is a god, why does he permit suffering? They feel as if God either never existed or has "abandoned" us. They couldn't be further from the truth. God loves us still. Only understanding of his word the bible, helps us to know and love God.

I think it's the people that take the faith and mis-use it that ruin the integrity of having a faith.
There are too many people proclaiming to be Christians that are far from it and they ruin it for the true believers, the people that talk the talk and walk the walk .

if you're talking about things from a biblical perspective, then what you are asking about is called the apostasy. my second opinion is that people commonly claim to be things in name only, but not in practice. many people claim to have faith but when it's put to the test it crumbles because they have never sought to exercise it or strengthen it through a real relationship with god. the apostle paul speaks of your "fading out" here:

in the Second Epistle to the Thessalonians . (three versions listed)

"Let no man deceive you by any means, for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,"

"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"

"Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction"

i will point out that while christianity is faltering in the west, it is alive and thriving in the eastern parts of the world. it is one of the fastest spreading faiths. my thought on this is that god uses the poor in heart and spirit because those people seek him with their ability. asia is seeing huge revivals in christianity. westerners like to believe that they are complete in themselves, and therefore have rejected god in favor of spirituality without structure or rule and political correctness.
