Okay, you're in 43rd place and get a pit road violation. There are 30 cars on lead lap and 13 one lap down. Do you ; A) go to 31st place at tail end of outside line B) stay in 43rd at end of inside line C) stay in 43rd but start at the end of outside line or D) some other penalty.
By the way, Thanks to Beth for Best answer on my earlier question. I'm not real sure why I'm stumbling on this, but I appreciate the info.

C is the right answer.

If in 43rd place (last place) you would be positioned on the outside behind 30th place with a lot of cars separating you from the other 12 cars you would need to pass to gain spots as all those 12 would be on the inside far up the track.

You would still be scored (shown to be) in 43rd spot behind all other 42 cars.

Statistics prove your only hopes of gaining spots is through attrition or other cars lose more laps to you. It's a fact you can't lose anymore spots as you can't do worse than last, you can only lose more laps.

How you got to 43rd, ie. previous penalty or you're car just simply sucks will have some determination on ability to improve positions under green. Penalties to other cars later in the race could effect position.

If you're in 43rd place and there are only 30 cars on the lead lap then that means that you are at least one lap down and you would not improve your position at all. If anything, you would lose ground on the lap down drivers ahead of you because then you would be starting basically at the beginning of turn 4 while all of the others will be at about the start finish line when you think about it. So the answer to your question is "C." There is really no way that I can think of that you can actually gain a position by having this penalty called on you.

OK so you have a very confusing question here. I am assuming you have a choice because there is a yellow flag???? If you are in 43rd place, you can't do any worse. You don't automatically just go to 31st place because you want to so A is out of the question. You also don't have a choice where you are starting so B and C are also out of the question., and I am not sure what penalty you are referring to??? If there is a yellow and you are in 43rd position one lap down what you do would depend on your car and why you are in last place. If you have a good car and are there because of a penalty or a problem on pit road them I would probably stay out and try to be the first driver on the lead lap in case another caution came out so I could get the lucky dog then race my way back to the front.

If you are in 43rd place and there are only 30 cars on the lead lap, that would mean you were at least one lap down as well. The pit road penalty would put you on the outside line behind all the lead lap cars, but you would still be a lap down and would lose all that track position against the other cars one lap down. You would still be in 43rd place, at least a lap down, and have 18 lead lap cars between you and the next car ahead of you for position at the restart.

I think I know what your trying to ask...., your the first car a lap down... Would you rather re-start the race,in the front [on the outside line? or in the back?
If this is the case? At Daytona or Dega.. I'd just assume start at the rear of the feild... It would be a el-of-alot easier to try and draft your way back to the front, rather than to try and keep 42 other cars behind you !!!

C

30 cars to 12, so 30 would be the longest line. You go to the end of that line. You do not pass the leader so you do not get your lap back.
