The Old Testament had been in existence, in its current form, for at least 1000 years before the Koran was written. The New Testament for over 500 years. The first complete Bible in book (not scrolls) form at been released about 200 years before the Koran. Muhammed was familiar with both Testaments, the Christian faith, and his sife remained a practicing Catholic her entire life.

So did the Koran (written by Muhammed) borrow from the Bible? Yes. It mentions many of the people of the Bible, including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Its tracks its history back to one of Abraham's sons, Ishmael. So it has many things in common with the Jews faith.

But the Islamic religion reject both the Old and New Testaments as corrupted documents. Anywhere the Bible disagrees with the Koran (and it does in hundreds of places), the Muslims believe that the Bible was altered and is incorrect.

The Koran is a record of visions and teachings given to Muhammed. It is not a copy of the Bible or the Old Testament. But it does appear that Muhammad's teachings and vision were influenced by his knowledge of the Jewish and Christian faiths.

Koran is a book written 1000++ years after the OLD TESTAMENT and approximately 500 years after the NEW TESTAMENT, it is a poor collection of this and that's from both. The holidays are approximately at the same time with different rules. In The OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS GD asks for less and gives more.

Muslim will hang me for this answer, but AGAIN Islam did not come to be until many years after Judaism and Christianity and when Islam came to be the two books WERE WRITTEN.

answering THE PREVIOUS PERSON - Jews have gone astray in past, Muslims are still very much at it.

The Quran and the Original Bible are both revelations from the same source - God.

Hence certain aspects may be similar in both these revelations. That does not necessarily mean that one is copied from the other.

To start with, the Bible did not exist in its original form at the time of the Prophet Muhammed pbuh. Even if it did, Muhammed pbuh was illiterate and did not know to read and write. These two factors alone are sufficient to show that the Quran is not a copy of the Bible.

However, assuming the Quran is a copy of the Bible, why is it that these two scriptures are in agreement in certain parts and differ (completely in some instances) in other parts?

Bismillah ( in the name of Allah)
I would like to thank you for such a interesting question. Allow me to open your mind a little. Imagine that religion is a linear (straight line) kind of thing coming from one God. So at first the revelation went to God chosen people the Children of Israel and then when they went astray with their thinking then he sent another messenger named Jesus the Son of Mary an when the ones who follow Jesus went astray with there thinking then he sent Mohammed, which is considered the seal on the prophets. You can also look at it as religion 1.0 ( old testament, Religion 2.0 ( new testament) and Religion 3.0 (Quraan). holler back

Islam shares a lot with Judaism & Christianity. They accept Jesus & Abraham as prophets, but they had an additional prophet that came to them with the message of God (Allah) - Muhammad.
