"I'm not scared of dying
And I don't really care
If it's peace you find in dying
Well then, let the time be near
* * *
I can swear there ain't no heaven
And I pray there ain't no hell
But I'll never know by living
Only my dying will tell.
Give me my freedom
For as long as I please
All I ask of living
Is to have no chains on me
And all I ask of dying
Is to go naturally.
And when I die
And when I'm dead, dead and gone
They'll be one child born
In the world to carry on."

I would hope nobody is implying anything. Death is a very touchy subject, no matter what you believe. I have no idea exactly what I believe, but I am still not afraid of death. You can't force yourself to believe, can you? That's when you end up at the therapist, or knocking on the priest's/minister's/pastor's door, looking for the answers you already know. Been there, done that.

I'm an atheist, I think about dying a lot, right about now I don't want to die, but when I am ready I will be ready. I don't want to live forever, I don't want to become a frail old man riddled with diseases. I want to have had a good life. I do not enjoy the theistic concept of an everlasting afterlife, how boring would that be, same old same old day in day out, it's an absurd idea, and it's coupled with the absurd idea that there is a 'god'.

doesn't mean I am going to force myself to believe in something that doesn't make sense or sound right to me. Good for you! Me,also! I think a lot religion is because of the fear of death!

They can't understand. It goes against their faith to accept more than one opinion or religion or faith.
If they are Christian, they think the 'opposite' to death is 'Christianity', and If they are Muslim, they think the 'opposite' to death is Islam, if they are Raelians they think...etc..
There is no point in worrying how they perceive you. There is only their monolithic faith in the fact they they are 'not going to die' because they believe in what they believe.
The fact that you don't follow their faith is interpreted by them all as proof to them that you are to be pitied, that you are 'lost', or 'evil', or 'foolish'.
They even think those things about each other (religionists) from church to church, or sect to sect. You don't thave to be an atheist or a different 'faith' in order to gain their pity or illogic, or disdain. You can be from the church or mosque across the way....and still be heading for 'punishment' in their minds.

I'm an Atheist. I don't fear death, I've already come very close to dying once and it has a way of making you think about the subject. I think the theists are scared of it and they make up this elaborate story so they feel better.
And to the poster above me, yes it makes much more sense that we crawled out of the ocean than "a magical sky pixie got bored one day and *poof* there we were, and the sky pixie can torture us all he likes while saying that he loves us because we were created by him".

Actually, I think they do believe that if you are scared you're easier to talk into their religion. As opposed to the other dozen or so religions that serve the same function. So far as I can tell, that's how religion started in the first place.

You know, no one has a choice about dying...we just look for the tale that gives us the most comfort for what we have to face in dying.

Yes the gospel sounds foolish to many but like I always say the sun and moon are not the same size in our sky by chance, no it is by creation.

Thanks for the list of generalisations guys.
The closest thing I have ever asked to what you describe is this. I enjoyed reading all the answers but there could not be a best.http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgzNSjcx2cMkakCubJP_xIAhBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20071001163903AAlE5ne
