Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies Recipe
1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs well beaten
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 Tablespoon cinnamon
3 cups oats (we use Quaker Quick or Old Fashioned. Do NOT use instant.)
3/4 cup chopped walnuts (use 1/2 cup if using raisins)
1 cup raisins (optional)
1 Cream shortening and sugars, add eggs and vanilla and beat well.
2 Sift flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon. Add to first mixture and mix well. Add raisins and nuts. Add oats last.
3 Spoon out by rounded tablespoonfuls on to greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350°F. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove to wire rack. Cool completely.
Makes about 2 dozen cookies.

Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon allspice
3 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup raisins
In a large bowl, combine butter, shortening and sugars.
Add eggs and vanilla and beat until fluffy.
Combine flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and allspice.
Add to creamed mixture; mix to blend.
Stir in oatmeal and raisins.
Drop a tablespoon of dough onto cookie sheet about 2-inches apart. Cookies will spread!
Bake at 350°F for 12-15 minutes.
Cool for about 5 minutes on cookie sheet, then remove to a cooling rack.

I made these oatmeal Raisin Cookies and they turned out great. They were gone in minutes.
Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
1 C. Raisins 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 C. water 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 3/4 C. shortening 1 1/2 C. sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp cloves
1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 C. flour 2 C. rolled oats
Simmer raisins and water in saucepan on low heat till raisins are plump, 20-30 minutes. Drain raisin liquid into measuring cup, and add enough water to make 1/2 a cup. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in raisin liquid. Stir together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, and spices. blend in rolled oats and raisins. Drop by tsp. fulls 2" apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes.

Yes, it's right on the box of Quaker Oats oatmeal (inside lid). If you want them soft and chewy, just under bake them for a couple of minutes.
