If Christians acknowledge that God is omniscient, why do they feel it is within their capacity as lowly human beings to change the will of God?
Surely as Christians, you must admit that it is impossible to divine the Will of God. To do so would be no different from an ant attempting to undertand Einstein's theory of relativity: our intellects do not permit of such an understanding. Yet the premise of prayer is to reason with God. Explain: How would this be different from an ant attempting to sway Einstein from his ideas on physics? Prayer is an admission of the prayer that he is on some comparable plain of intellect as God, that his reasoning could somehow enlighten God and move him from his original decision to allow, for example, Alan to die of cancer. This arrogance should surely be considered heresy. But even the Spanish Inquisition failed to notice this, and never to my knowledge tortured or sentenced to death any man, woman or child for the crime of prayer. Why?

Blasphemy is outdated. God is a superstition.
Prayer is useless, except maybe as a placebo.
You bring up a good point, though. When someone prays, they are either asking God to change his "perfect" plan or do what he was going to do anyway. What I find amusing is that people think that it works like some kind of popularity contest. They try to get as many people as possible to pray for a specific thing, as if God wouldn't hear the first prayer or would change his mind with enough votes.

You do not understand the premise of prayer.
We make our own choices and decisions in life, we choose the path to believe or not - it is called free will. Intercessory prayers, such as the one you mention of praying for a loved one, are prayers asking God to intervene in natural processes - inviting God into the life of our loved one. Are such prayers selfish? Yes. Blasphemous? Certainly not.
God knowing what will happen and God causing what will happen are two very different things a mistake frequently made by those who do not understand faith. He does not make a man become a drunkard or a hater - but with prayer He can help that man to change his heart, to be the emotional support such a man would need to heal.
Basic Christian premises - man is made in God's image, Jesus came as God and yet still man on earth. To deny that man has any comprehension of God is to deny God made flesh.
So your question comes down to the same old question this kind of thing always does - are you a person of faith? Some people are and some are not. I would venture a guess that there are as many reasons for people to reject faith as there are for them to embrace it.

Hello Jennifer,
Christ told us to pray and HE died for our sins. We only do what we have been told to do by those who wrote GOD'S Inspired WORD and we are not using any heresy in doing so. We are to pray and believe as HE has told us to do. It is possible for an ant to carry a thusand times it's own weight. If we had the strength of an ant we would be super-men/women in this world. Einstein was absolutely brilliant in my opinion but he was said to have used only 10 to 15% of his actual brain. It is possible for you and I to completly understand his theories and writings but we need to think in a different manner than we have been trained. Biblical Thinking is much the same. Have a wonderful day and a glorious week.
Thank YOU,
Eds

Your not changing the will of God your helping to fulfill it! The Bible tells us to pray. By praying you are placing your faith in God and asking him for help. Not saying GIVE me this or that. You pray and say if it's in your will God may it be done. If it's not your will give me the strength to deal with what comes my way!!!!

I pray for God's guidance and help. I pray that He will strengthen me so that I am able to handle the path that He lays before me. I pray that He watches over me and keeps me safe within His graces.
I do not pray to God for things.

In any control mechanism you need to give the subject hope.If you tell them from the start that it neither works or is wrong, then lack of hope means less people will accept it.

Yes, surely if your life is preordained, god must find all this pleading and begging very annoying? Who are you to ask for a change?

there you have it
god is not omniescent, so why refer to god as 'god'?
god is not omnipotent either.
can god create a being more powerful than god? if not, then he is not god, if so, then he will no longer be god.
