That's a pretty harsh way of putting it, but yes, I think it is neccessary. It would be nice if there were no reason to have a military, but the world has never seen world peace.

As some one that was drafted for Vietnam and served thirty-four years with the military and was a dependent for fourteen years prior to that I will take a whack at it. The military is necessary and does more than just fight or provide security for this country. It does so much in the way of humanitarian operations especially after an earth quake, hurricane, or flood and has saved or made the lives of many people throughout the world better after some of those catastrophes even in or for countries that we are not well liked not to mention the smaller operations that you will never hear or read about. I sometimes think that this country overly relies on it as an extension for carrying out its foreign policy and has done this for many years now, not just the current administration. When you consider that then you start to get into the question of isolationism also and can debate the aspects of that and how a country like Canada or Austraila conducts foregin policy and the advantages of having or not having a large standing military and how they use it. For this country since it is one of the richest in the world I think its necessary that we have a large, standing military and have a need for it as well as a responsibilty to use it for more good things and it should not be the first or primary means by which we carry out foreign policy. While it is expensive to maintain even with the debateble ways that it may be used or employed at times it is something this country needs and uses in so many other ways than just what the normal public thinks of or considers.

Basically, I think the military is necessary, but indeed it is far from evil. The powers that make it necessary are the evil.

The military (US specifically) is necessary (not to mention Constitutionally permitted {not required}), but certainly NOT evil...

If you want to see evil... go look at some other countries who've used their military in the last few decades for oppression of their own.

I spent 15 yrs in the Navy

I don't like to think I spent 20 years serving in an evil, thank you very much.

I think war is a necessary evil sometimes. I think the fact that there are those who wish to harm us is an inescapable evil.

I think the military protects us from evil.

Considering the fact that were not perfect

Since the view points of people are a blessing and a undoing

Military is a part of a civilizations growth and brings new
technologys to the people.

It also is their to help when needed in any kind of disaster

If you hate the military, one day if the enemy were to come to you hurt your family, then I would be pretty sure your ideas would change.

the military is very much needed, but is in no way evil, as far as the USA,UK,and such places go. in other places yes the military can be evil, when the country or military are led by evil men.

I think it's neccessary and there is not much evil about it. Although I read a post from an american woman who said all the troops in Iraq are the equivalent of Nazi war criminals. Now there's a girl who doesn't have any vets in her family...

As long as there is evil in the world we will need the military services or some equivalent to them.

You have free speech, you can vote and you enjoy reasonable safety. Thank a vet.

this is purely academic question...from the viewing point of life army is necessary and it is not necessarily evil...It's just like in ants nest...every little ant has something to do; some are workers, some are soldiers and some are lazy males who just hang around and **** that queen...Humans are not much different from other animals...Our social structure resembles that of insects, the only difference being that ****in'
independent thinking of ours !
