The optician told me that I am short sighted.

The Right sphere is -0.25 and the left sphere is -025

the right and left distance acuity are both 6/5

what does all that mean?

6/6 is usually considered 100% visual acuity. 6/5 is still better.

Usually it is not suggested to give a correction to 6/5 (it can sometimes lead to headache and strain). If your uncorrected visual acuity is 6/5, then all the more you don't require glasses.

I suggest that you get a duochrome eye testing done. This is a method of testing with red and green coloured letters. Ideally you should see the letters in red and green with equal intensity and clarity (with corrected vision). More of red indicates that you require more minus and more of green indictaes that you require less of minus (more of plus). Your eye doctor or optician will help you with the test if you request them.

It means your OD is still pretty new and wants some money.. There are a million people walking around today with this correction and worse.. and not wearing glasses

I also think the optician is "shortsighted".. I think they meant to say nearsighted

Those that require a - (minus) prescription are nearsighted, you see great at near... those that require a + (plus) prescription are farsighted, see well at far.

You will buy glasses and find it really is not much of a help and will never wear them, so don't spend alot of money on them.

It means you are very slightly nearsighted. +/- 0.25 is the mildest prescription a person can have. Power is measured in 1/4 diopters and starts at +/- 0.25 and goes up in 1/4 step increments in either direction.

I doubt that getting glasses will really do anything to make much of a difference, except maybe at night while driving. To me, that prescription would be optional and would not necessarily be required per se. You certainly could get glasses with that correction, but its doubtful that you would see much of an improvement.

It means you're slightly short-sighted in both eyes. A spherical lens that reduces the focal length of the lens in your eye by 0.25 cm will correct your vision. Acuity is about how good you are at reading the chart. 6/6 is good (it's the metric equivalent of 20:20). 6/5 means you can't read the bottom line of the chart.

PS If the left sphere was 25, you'd need a telescope to correct that eye.

It means you don't have perfect vision and you shouldn't need glasses.

It means you need mild glasses for reading. Mine is very similar.
