Amoxicillin. Can I take expired amoxicillin? The prescription is about 1 1/2 to two years old. Any side effects from taking expired amoxicillin?

You probably have some old amoxicillin around the house from the last time you got sick. This is fine to use even if "expired" more than a year ago. Expiration dates on non-liquid antibiotics are a marketing tool (i.e. they encourage people to throw good drugs down the drain) and have no scientific basis -- a fact demonstrated by the U.S. military. this is part of the drug selling culture we've bought into; buy more; go to the dr. all such a crock. we've been brainwashed and ripped off. good question and i hope others will look into the answer more deeply.
amoxocillin won't stop a staph infection though.

What a bunch of idiot remarks. As the individual above said, surplus military meds kept around for years have worked. This is a racket in which doctors and pharmaceutical companies collaborate and scare the average dolt into believing those meds are useless. If it's a tablet, it's maybe lost a little potency, but it's not going to hurt you for God's sake and it's still AMOXICILLIN.

Don't know about any side effects but 1 / 2 years old seems a bit much probably strength has expired. Visit G.P for new script = safest option

Using Amox past it s expiration date causes hot dog fingers, gigantic eyeball, and spontaneous human combustion.

They are less effective. The risks of taking expired antibiotics may probably cost u more in the end if something happens.

Everyone- "Just go to the doctor." Me- If I could do that why the **** would I be asking the public.
IF YOU HAVE ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE like I don t know, previous experience or how the military people added some really useful and interesting information then PLEASE ******* SHARE IT. If you are just using your brainless applied logic to a situation you haven t been it then kindly **** OFF.
