You should probably see a dematologist. It sound to me like you have vry sensitive skin. I use a black bar soap that has cocoa butter and shea butter in it to clean my face. It helps give it a nice smooth clean look. Then I apply witch hazel to clean out my pores, and put on a little lotion on my face. I don't use any sunscreen because I love that my skin looks touched by the sun. I love my nice dark complexion! But I do use this cocoa butter stick at night. It's only about $.99 at Walmart. I just rub the stick all over my face and go to sleep with the cocoa butter on my face. I may not look like Beyounce but I look like a better version of myself after following my beauty treatment!

it is because according in the internet, hydroquinone may act as a carcinogen or cancer-causing chemical, although its cancer-causing properties have yet to be proved in humans. Hydroquinone also has been linked with the medical condition known as ochronosis in which the skin becomes dark and thick. Dome-shaped yellowish spots and grayish-brown spots also are observed in ochronosis among black women and men in South Africa, Britain, and the U.S. Ochronosis has been observed in conjunction with hydroquinone use even in persons who have used hydroquinone-containing cosmetics for a short time. Some studies also report abnormal function of the adrenal glands and high levels of mercury in people who have used hydroquinone-containing cosmetics.

your skin is sensitive; that's why you reacted to an ingredient in clear essence, but i don't think it's hydroquinone..
results for each individual will be different.. celebrities have a high budget for skin maintenance to keep their job.. sadly, most of us don't have that luxury...
the results that you want will not rely on one product alone -
why don't you try a mild skin lightening soap (nice black licorice soap at http://www.skinbleachingtreatment.com ), high spf sunscreen (choose with mexoryl or avobenzone), and your favorite moisturizer.. these 3 can lighten your skin, protect it from further darkening, and keep it with a rosy glow.
hope that helps better. :-)
you can find it here -
