God is a word which is defined by many. Jesus defined the word God as good, holy, and father, and described his love as overwhelming and surpassing all human conceived love.
However, many describe God quite differently. Even followers of Christ can, at times, describe a very different "God" than the one Jesus described.
I think that because of this confusion, people in the old testament described God as "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob", so people would know which definition was being used.
Today, I would rather describe God as the one Jesus described...the good, holy, all loving father.

good question. without a god (or religion), there is no evil. the concept of evil (and hell and a devil) are products of religion, so god and evil go hand in hand.
as for is god evil. no, because there is no such thing as god. just a series of made up stories and fables hijacked by self serving individuals.

i like gelfling's & Mordent's replies above. They show us how ignorant we are. That's good so that we will try to seek the truth and be a better person.
According to kabbalists, not one word in the Bible pertains to objects in This World. It talks of spiritual objects in the Upper World. The Bible is not a history book---it's a user's manual on how to answer the question: "What is the purpose/meaning of my life?"
sword=wisdom; land=desire; place=state; land=desire; Pharaoh=Ego; parent=previous state; child=new state...can't you see a lot of codes are implemented here? So, to study a book, learn what is the writer's intention, Then, you will see the real meaning of the writings! A chemist will write NaCl instead of salt because he/she is talking of a deeper reality.
Everything that was, being, and will be created has a purpose---INCLUDING EVIL! We just don't know why; that's why we get pissed off and talk non-sense. The important thing is we try to study and learn.
Is God good or evil? That depends on which part of your spiritual path you are in now! You, and only you can answer that!
by the way, the Bible is not for us to believe...it is for us to study and learn for ourself the truth that it is talking about.

Evil exists. We can accept this as a fact.
God is widely believed to be both loving and all-powerful. Yet there is something strange here.
If God is willing to prevent evil, but is not able, then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he IS evil
Is he both able and willing? Then why do we have evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

No, the evil in the world is what man has acquired.
How do we know day? because the sun is out and there is light? how do we know night? because there is darkness.
So how do we know good? because we know what is evil.
Without both we cannot know either of them.

Yes and no, god is nice for people who do nice things, and have justice and brains, and on the other hand, he is evil, to people who are bad, and evil.
