Don't panic at the shock headline, read on:

In Revelation 22:16 Jesus descibes Himself as the bright and moring star: "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star."

However, at the same time in Roman astronomy, Lucifer (name meaning Light Bearer from the Latin: lucem ferre), was the name given to the morning star otherwise known as Venus . It was and still is described as the bright and morning star, as was Jesus.

As symbolism was the main tool of impact at that time, my question is this, have we mis-interpreted the role of Lucifer?

Some responses have indicated that Satan and Lucifer are the same. Are they? How do you know this?

first off, thank you, i missed this somehow. secondly, no they are not the same, and neither are Samael (satanel's true name) and Lucifer, two entirely different entities. Lucifer left on his own, got a bit too vain, Satan was just a greedy moron with a silver tongue. what i'm guessing is that Jesus is the Sun, as you rightly pointed out, Lucifer is Venus. the whole thing goes to show that christianity is a solar cult!"

Isaiah 14:12. How you are fallen from heave, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: "I will ascend into heaven I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; i will also sit onthe mount of the congregation ........."

Fallen from heaven is a figure of speech meaning cast down from an exalted politcal position. Jesus said, "and you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades" (Lk 10:15), and apparently with the same meaning, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven" (Lk 10:18). The name LUCIFER in Hebrew literally means "DAY STAR", or the planet venus. The poetic language of this verse describes the aspiration of this brightest star to climb to the zenith of the heavens and its extinction before the RISING SUN. This is an apt summary of the failed goal of the king of Babylon (v.4) who wanted to grasp universal and eternal domination. Tertullian, Milton and others have linked this passage to the career of Satan on the basis of Luke 10:18, but the text does not make this connection.

We do know, however, Lucifer was a king and not a fallen angel.

And the passage goes on to say, "You will not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed you land and slain your people. THE BROOD OF EVILDOERS SHALL NEVER BE NAMED" This means the King's posterity will not be remembered.

From what i gather, it is safe to say Lucifer and Satan are two completley different people/spirits. If Satan were Lucifer, and vise versa, then the blatant knowledge everyone somehow acquires of the Devil, we would aslo acquire the knowledge of his rein on Earth as the most evil king.

No, definitely not.

Lucifer is the term used by in Isaiah 14:4,12 of the king of Babylon who had so much power he thought himself equal to God. The LORD God tells him in verse 22 that they would be destroyed.

Jesus is referred to as 'a bright and morning star.' Because Jesus is described as 'the light that came into the world'.

Lucifer was the king of all the angels.

When the Almighty created His first human-crerations, He asked all the angels to bow before them. They all did; except for Lucifer. Upon his refusal to follow the Almighty's command, he was banished and sent to hell.

On the other hand, Jesus Christ (MPBH) was sent down to Earth to spread the Almighty's message and save the Jewish race who had gone astray and were repeatedly questioning the Almighty.

So, to compare Jesus Christ (MPBH) with Lucifer is totally wrong and ill-advised. Lucifer's job since his banishment from the Almighty's kingdom is to mislead the human-race and compel them to commit sin after sin.

You can't compare from two different things. If it says in the bible that Jesus in the bright morning star, then look in the bible for something saying that satan is also the bright morning star. I cant explain it that well but dont compare the bible with anything else coz you'll just get confused

Actually you are right.

I would like to add that in the answer above me, the word satan and lucifer are interchanged, whereas the bible mentions them separately. I have not yet seen a verse where lucifer (by that name) is refered to in a bad light (no pun intended).

No, they are definitely NOT the same person. Both appeared the same time in Matthew 4, for instance. Satan also entered into Judas when he left Jesus and the others at the last supper.
Obviously not the same.

I have heard this brought up a bunch of times, I think it's very interesting. But most of the Christians will just dismiss it through and through.

Actually you got that right. Nowhere in the bible does it say Lucifer is Satan.
