I am a new manager with a finance firm. I am trying to determine what I should be getting for my four employees. We make good money since this is my first holiday as a manger - am interested to find out what you think would be appropriate.

Tzilt may have been half joking with his answer, but according to the etiquette experts, he is perfectly correct. The most--perhaps the only--truly appropriate holiday gift from an employer to an employee is a bonus.

Maybe gift cards to a restaurant everybody likes. Or since you only have four folks maybe you can find out which restaurant each one likes.

You don't mention if your folks are female or male. But if they are female a floral arrangement with the card would be nice.

Another thought, I don't know the relationship you have with your folks, but if things are open and conversation is free, ask them what they would like. If I were in their position, I would appreciate being asked and it would make me feel "the boss" values my opinion.

Have a wonderful celebration in a nice elegant restaurant with their mates. And afterward, reward them with a spa gift certificate or movie ticket for two so that they can spend time on their own and talk about what wonderful manager you are.
Enjoy and have fun!

You can't go wrong with gift vouchers. You could always throw in a bottle of champagne as well, to celebrate their hard work.

We have always kept the gifts very business like and given pen sets, or leather tablet holders with their name or initials engraved, leather passport holders for the frequent travelers.....etc.

What would you want?

Answer: cash. Cash is king. They are there to make money, not get lame gifts. Give them cash! Cash cash cash! Then they can go get chocolate or shaving cream or gin or Tough Actin Tinactin or whatever they want.

(CASH)
