She needs to go with someone else that she trusts and get a reading for both. So if she goes off the deep end believing this stuff, her friend will bring her back down to earth.

IOW, there is no doubt whatsoever she is going to be impressed. If her and her friend are both impressed with their very own readings and her friend isn't as excited as she is, then she will realize that some things are interesting but not always true.

Try to find a dump ruined down place that does reading. If it's a little seedy it is better so she will feel it is more like a con.

Probably get her an astrology book that is short and to the point... start reading her horoscope from a different zodiac sign than her own. Only near the end, notice that it is the wrong sign.

Also look up the guy that gives a million dollars away for people that can prove this stuff is real. Feed her that info too.

BTW, if she seems sane, then by all means let her go to it... she has to satisfy a need and once she does she probably will work on other things in her life.

She's your mother, and an adult, She should be able to do what she likes.

But, a lot of those people do take advantage of people (in fact, probably all of them do) so I would suggest you go with her, keep an eye on her.

Maybe it will help her have closure.

Just pretend to have an "open mind" about it, and let her make her own choice. Just don't criticise her, and make sure she doesn't fall for their scams. Otherwise, she might do it behind your back and waste thousands of dollars.

Also you could suggest she see a grief counsellor to help her talk through her loss.

She could also try writing letter to him, although he obviously won;t read them, it could help her get her feelings out. maybe she could have a diary just for that.

This is a little off topic, but maybe it might help her:

My dad who I don't have contact with, has my mums ashes and refuses to bury them somewhere, where the family can go and visit her in private (long story). I have set up a small special spot in my home (or could be in the garden if she likes) with a few things my mum loved (like lavander) a picture of her and candles. I find it has helped me quite a bit. Although she doesn't talk back to me, I still feel a connection with her, and talk myself through my problems. It helps when I'm alone and I need her.

If your mother wants to visit a medium, she should go.
Whether you believe in it or not, is not the question. It would make your mother feel better about your dad, and she may get some comfort from it.

You may be right with your assumptions about mediums, or, you may be wrong. The point is that your mother should be able to make her own choices, no matter how old she is, or how old you are.

I am 76 years young. If I wanted to go to a medium, I would go, and my children would back me. Not because they believed in it, but because it was my choice and would probably assist me in feeling better about my husband.

Give her your blessing and your love.

They're not even reading minds. They make suggestive statements and let you fill in the blanks.
They tell you what you want to hear and you pay them for it.

I would also strongly disagree but it's her decision.

If this will ease your mom, then why do you care? No one should force their beliefs on anyone. She isn't hurting herself or you, so leave her to be an adult and make her own adult decisions.

All Souls go to God,
she can talk to Him.

Tell her go if she wants but don't come crying to you when they take her for her money.
