It it possible to reverse it's purpose, i.e. use it as a generator rather than a motor.

Yes. An electric motor and electric generator are essentially the same device, only working in reverse. The motor converts electrical energy into kinetic energy, while the generator converts kinetic energy into electrical energy.

I don't believe so.. a generator creats electricity and you have to have something to push the electricity out,, I doubt if an engine will do that

Sure, but it won't produce very much power.

it will produce power but you would need rectifier diodes or something to form the sine wave output
