Yes, American games would work on your Austrailian PS3.
PS3 games are region free, meaning that a game from one territory would work anywhere. But are you considering importing games from the U.S., or just going to a local store to buy one? if you are to partake in the latter option, you need not worry about your issue. Just because the game developer is located in the U.S. doesn't mean that your local copy isn't Aussi. But if you are actually wondering what the best american game is, I would choose either Uncharted, Drake's Fortune, or Resistance Fall of Man. Ratchet and Clank, Tools of Destruction is a great game, but if you play through the game more than twice, the sheer amount of bolts you will have will slow everything down, (loading screens, VENDORS [oh my lord, they get slow!] and average framerate) and you will begin to tear apart the game engine, causing crazy glitches(such as being stuck in a wall, losing LOTS of afore mentioned bolts, floating objects, random freezes, weapon errors, etc.)

Yes, the ps3 can play all region games, but Blu ray movies might not work, and ps1/ps2 games are region locked, aside from that it should work as long as u dont buy Stranglehold, which is the only PS3 region locked game

It comes wireless. To charge it, you plug it into the PS3's front left area into one of the USB ports with the USB cable that came with your system. Just plug it in and you should see the red light on the top of the controlled blinking. To make it wireless. Once the controller is charged..just unplug it from the USB cord, and turn on your PS3. After the system boots up, just press the PS button in the center of the controller and you should be good to go.
