Around our house we ask each guest how they like their steak prepared (seasoning, doneness, etc.).
To grill tenderloin steaks nice and juicy we allow them to stand at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before grilling and we use the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com for grilling times, based on the thickness and doneness of each steak and the preferences of each dinner guest.
For those who like, we'll also serve with a nice steak sauce. Our guests are usually very impressed that we would want to do their steak just like they like it.
Thank you for your service.

I agree with another answer that suggests that tenderloin is best not cooked on the barbecue but in the oven. Similarly it is best with gentle seasonings or sauces and no marinade.
If you have to marinate try the following. It is fairly mild. Do not marinate too long or you will taste only the marinade and not the beef. 5 hours in a plastic bag should be ample.
1/3 cup fresh orange juice
1½ tablespoons finely grated orange zest
1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
1 tablespoon crushed green peppercorns
½ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons olive oil

I'd reccommend garlic, a little salt, not too much or you'll dry out the meat, crushed green peppercorns and good spill of whiskey.
I must tell you though, cooking beef tenderloin on a BBQ is rather unorthodox as it will dry out quicker than most cuts. Tenderloin is more of a "searing-then-adding-sauce" kind of cut. Next time get T-bones. Perfect for BBQ's and they have a richer falvour and will pick up the BBQ smoke very well.

his is a great, sweet bourbon marinade that works perfectly on any foods. This is a mild marinade so you will want several hours marinating time with it before you grill.
INGREDIENTS:
This is a good one- serve with garlic mashed potatoes, a green salad, good crusty bread, a merlot or cabernet or stout- and something chocolate for dessert.
Bourbon Beef Marinade
1 cup bourbon
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup oil
1 cup prepared mustard
1 cup worchestershire sauce
Combine all ingredients and mix until the sugar is completely dissolved. Marinate meats for 4 to 6 hours

seriously....we are talking beef tenderloin...nothing needs to be added as a marinade. this is the most tender piece of meat. season with garlic powder, salt and pepper, throw on grill flip remove. serve nice and rare with a nice Shiraz and oven roasted potatoes, steamed asparagus and a nice french loaf.

seal them overnight in a bag with 2 parts red wine (any will do), 1 part pineapple juice, and 1 part soy sauce. Refrigerate, and remove 1 hour before you're ready to cook. cover with a lid any steak med-well done. Add butter and a pinch of salt after you flip the steaks.

One bottle of Italian salad dressing. Put the dressing in a container with the meat and marinate for 20 minutes to one hour. You will have tender and tasty meat with minimal hassle.

you can always marinade beef in soy sauce, brown sugar, lime, garlic pepper, a beer (a little), and if you have sprite or 7-up will help! if you like it hot some chili!
