When I meditate long enough, my body starts to feel very light...it's a weird feeling and causes me to laugh! I am aware that I am laughing but I don't think about it too much cause I don't want to "awake" from the meditative state. At the same time, it's weird that I'm laughing for seemingly no reason.

Perhaps I will simply build more discipline over time. But still, I wonder if anyone has heard of someone laughing during meditation. And do you have any tips?

Thank you.

Yes, as you continue to meditate it will probably improve. It is common for lots of emotions to surface unexpectedly when you meditate. Some people I know have worked through sobbing uncontrollably when they meditated as they delt with painful subconscious things. I have had both experiences of feeling light and giggly and sad but not yet to the point of either really crying or laughing although I was grinning. Its normal and might even be a good thing as it shows you are working through emotions and becoming more conscious of them. Part of the goal of some meditation is to become aware of emotional states and more in control of them such as you can dismiss those that are not helpful to you. What I have learned when thoughts and feelings arise in meditation is take note of them then dismiss them by bringing your focus back to your breathing. Maybe try refocusing by lengthening or shortening the breath cycles and concentrating on feeling what is happening in your body as you breath. If you are feeling too bouyant to the point it makes you feel too light or giddy try imagining weight in the air as you take a breath in grounding you. Experiencing emotion is not wrong and experiencing laughter is generally a positive thing but part of meditation is working with understanding we are the creators and controllers of emotion. I think if you just keep practicing you will get more grounded in your ability to clear your mind. If not consider a class where an experienced teacher can guide you. There are some good books that go through working through disruptive emotions as well, check your library.

I laugh, too, when I meditate. Many people do, it's normal. That's when I know I'm really "in the emptiness". Feeling light is a very good sign that you are in deep meditation, as well. You're connecting with the spirit world and that's what it feels like to be a spirit, light and happy, remember? You do when you meditate!

Contemplate the image of Bea Arthur while you meditate. The Goddess Bea provides peace, love and understanding.

Don't talk about homosexuality.

LOL

Try calm, relaxing, deep breaths and put on some very soothing music, that should help.
