Sir , To change a persons perception about a religion it need not be a book at all. Any religion is as vast as Samudra and NO book for that matter is so great or understoood properly to change a perception about A RELIGION . We are NOT discussing any propoganda here - which of course can do such a disaster. If possible, my humble suggestion, kindly read Ashtavakar Geeta before proceeding to any other book Blessings

Upanishads like Isha, Kena, Brihad Aranyaka, Taitirriya, Aittriya, Prasna, Manduka, Mandukya, Chhandogya, and so many others.
Mainly because, Geeta contains the essence of all these Upanishads. Reading of these basic Upanishads make understanding easier and simpler.

Samkhya Darshan + Patanjali Yog Sutra, because they go hand in hand with Geeta, which is cream of Vedas. Samkhya tell us the higer philosophy, and it's implementation is given in Patanjali Yog Sutra.
Patanjali Yoga is practical, authentic, scientific, well defined and compact system, independent of religion/rituals/belief system, generic and Universally acceptable.
Best is that Patanjali Yoga is culmination of all the three paths i.e. Bhakti (surrender), Jayan (wisdom/right-knowledge) and Karam (right-action) yoga.
Patanjali Yoga is also known as Ashtang (eight limbs) Yoga. Eight limbs of Patanjali Yoga are Yama, Niyama, Asana and Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyan and Samadhi.

I have reverence for all the Books, that are all great and give the same message
Read Guru Granth Sahib if you have time , I recommend it.
Why I recommend it is that this is the only Scripture which has writings and hyms of not only the 10 Sikh Gurus but also about 26 other saints of that time some of them were of different religions and also from different walks of life. (Like Kabir, Farid, Rahim, Bhai Gurudas, Ravidas)
This point alone gives an very clear indication that God, Love for His and also His knowledge is not proprietory of any perticular religion and sect. The TRUTH (HIM) is the same for every one and whoever Loves Him gets Him.

The main four are Vedas, others Ramayana, Geeta, etc. are tales. The real hinduism is worship the nature, nothing else. We are in problem now.
