Well one reason I can think of is that if you're married, you obviously have someone to talk to if you're feeling suicidal. There's probably not one single reason, but if I just try to pull one out of mid-air, I'm going with that reason.

My goodness according to the answers so far are there that many unmarried, unhappy people in today's society??? Marriage is a oneness....To love and be loved is awesome... The only fear I live with is that my husband will die before me; because I love him so much I don't know what I would do without him!!!!! There are relationships like the movie {The Notebook} there really are soul mates, I am living proof of it.

because people generally have high hopes and dreams when they get married. You know, house, kids, grandkids, etc. When this comes crashing down around their head (death or divorce) they lose a part of themselves, not just a mate. People who have not been married have not generally built this fantasy around one person. Married people tend to be concerned about the welfare of their spouse, and/or children, so tend not to take their lives as often out of concern for them. Besides, it is nicer to walk the path of life with a partner and not alone

indeed. since atheists are statistically slightly less likely to divorce, we can assume that it is the marriage that prevents suicide and not religion.

ergo, atheists are essentially correct when they say they say relationships among humans are more important than a belief in an Invisible Sky Fairy.

Married people can enjoy safe sex and it keeps their brain cool. That's why married people have the least risk for suicide.

It is tempting to say "people are happier together" but correlation does not equal causation. Maybe the divorce broke them mentally or financially?

the reason is not happiness, married people are most unhappy people. however they owe the liabilities, once they are married and they can't commit suicide even if they want to do it due to the responsibilities involved
