Who is the greatest in NASCAR either past or present....and why do you think this???

No disrespect to any Driver out there past or present!
Dale Earnhardt Sr. was the best driver ever to strap on a helmet!
I watched that man do incredible things with a race car! He didn't complain about every little thing that wasn't just right. He also played a major role in making Nascar what it is today!
I've always heard that Richard Petty is the King! I agree with him having that title because of the number of wins. But, if you could have put both of them in equal cars at the same age I'd have bet my money on Dale Sr. to get r done! He just had some special abilities that he may have not even known about! He had IT when it came to stock car racing!!!

Past: David Pearson, he has a higher winning percentage than Petty or almost anyone else for that matter. He didn't race full time but still won 3 championships. The King even said he was the greatest driver he ever raced against.
Present: Jimmie Johnson, even though Jeff would be higher on my all time driver list at this time. Jimmie has outperformed EVERYONE since he came into the cup series full time in 2002. His consistency and ability to work his way through the field is unbelievable. He has never finished worse than 5th in the standings and has obviously just won back to back championships. If he can make it 3 STRAIGHT IN '08 he will be only the 2nd driver to ever accomplish that.
Say what Snake? Come on, you can say it. Let me guess, it starts with a J and ends with an e LOL J-I-M-M-I-E, that's not so hard, you can do it man.

Past: Richard Petty, because he is the King of NASCAR. Dale Earnhardt Sr. because he was the "Intimidator." David Pearson being the "Silver Fox." All of these guys had amazing accomplishments. Other great drivers include Darryll Waltrip, Lee Petty, Buddy Baker, and the Allisons.
Present: Jeff Gordon because he is the greatest driver in the Modern Era...

Past- David Pearson, Dale Earnhardt Sr & King Richard I saw all of these great drivers race, they knew how to get it done..
Present- Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson,Tony Stewart, they do have multiple championship between them..
