I meant unique as in hard to duplicate....Elvis really isn't in that catogory considering the amount of Elvis impersonators!
I asked this question because I heard a song on an advert yesterday which I had never heard before but knew intantly that it was Cery's matthews vocals from the band Catatonia.

in my opinion some older atrists are the best ever and they are peter gabriel and kate bush..

As you've discounted Elvis,....believe me, no male singer has duplicated/covered the range of notes that ROY ORBISON reached. Female, more difficult, but I'd plump for KATE BUSH too. (I think you're wrong to discount Elvis though, although there are thousands of impersonators. Listen to ALL his songs, especially earlier material (50's-60's) he had a totally unique voice. Listen to "jim said hello", "playing for keeps" for example, his style/voice was absolutely unique.)
