Epithelial and connective tissue are two separate entities.

Tattoo ink goes into both...it STAYS in the connective tissue because that is the dermis. Epidermal epithelial tissue is constantly renewing and that is the area that peels off after a tattoo so some ink is around those cells.

That's why people sometimes think the are "losing ink" - in reality they are, but that is expected - the part that stays is in the dermis and that is what makes the tattoo permanent.

I'm not sure what tattoo ink expects. I haven't figured out how to tell.
