Catty is employed with the Marks Corp. She earns a salary of $200 a week, as well as a commisson of 1 1/2 percent of sales. Her commission last month was $840. She will recieve one-fourth of that amount this week in her gross earnings. She is married, has five children, but only claims three exemptions. She also earns $40 a week by doing artwork on the side out of her own home. She collects this income in cash. Catty has earned $14,900 to date from her sales for the Marks Corporation and $3,880 for her artwork. She has $47 taken out of her paycheck each week for savings and $100 is directly deposited into her bank account. What is her paycheck amount for the week?

The question is answerable, but you have to make certain assumptions not in the question. Those assumptions would be: (1) there is no state income tax, and (2) what filing status she claimed on her W4 (ie: MFJ, MFS, Single). We know she is married, but we don't know if that is what she put on her W4.

As a further hint, there is extraneous information in the question which you must filter out.

I would recommend that you post your answer along with your reasons. We could then critique your answer and computations.

No way to tell as you didn't include the information on tax rates, etc.
