This is a spot on observation about the motivations of a great deal of anti-gay religious rhetoric. For centuries churches have provided a bolt hole for gay men and women unable to deal with their sexuality in often extremely homophobic societies. The price of such acceptance has been silence, and alligning oneself with a bigoted and baseless moral ideology.
The thing is, as people become more sophisticated and educated in their understanding of how sexuality works, more people are realising this, and this makes the religious closet cases more and more anxious.
Recent hysterical pronouncements from the Vatican and the farcical case of Ted Haggard and his evangelical church are evidence that the cover is no longer working as it used to.
Good on you for pointing it out. I'm fed up with pretend heterosexuals attacking my sexuality. The real ones I can deal with: we can talk honestly with each other, even if we don't always agree.

To spend your whole life pretending would require a good reason. If there was no good reason, the Christian person would probably stop pretending. Resentment is a form of anger, and as with any anger, it can be righteous indignation or unjustified anger. Most people, Christian or not, don't realize their anger is unjustified until they grow enough to see the unreasonableness of their anger. When the person realizes her anger is unjustified, she has no reason to be angry with anyone. (Then, she might become angry with herself for being so stupid. However her anger might be momentary, when she remembers that well, of course she is stupid: God isn't finished her yet!)
This may be a reason why we live so long: we usually only learn through experience, and that is a really slow process. Hopefully by the time we reach the end, we are ready to live in the new phase of our existence where there will be no more tears, and only the love of our creator, and genitalia and orientation will be a moot point. ( Am I ranting yet?)

"they werent able to stop equal rights for blacks" You may want to run that line by William Wilberforce; a fundamentalist Christian and one of the leaders of the ant-slavery movement in Europe. Or perhaps by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. I do not believe he was against black rights, either. Try not to project the actions and protests of a few onto the many without doing some research to backup your claims. I am a fundamentalist Christian in that I hold firm to the fundamentals given to man through God's Word. What are they? Love God. Love others as yourself. (Matthew 22:37-40) Which of these "fundamentals" is against blacks or homosexuals? "*southern christians" "*some southern Christians" would be the accurate statement to make here. There were also southern Christians who opposed it, as well as many others in the north.

The Christians who are straight that I know think that they are lucky to not be Gay. They think that they got the better deal. I am not straight, but I am a Christian. So when they find out that I am Bi, they tend to avoid me. They do not want me around.
That gives me more time to be with God though. They think that is a good thing for me, but I do not think that they know why it's a good thing.

Ted Haggard certainly did. He ranted against homosexuality like you wouldn't believe. Pretty ironic, considering the way things turned out.
I think the ones who are still in the closet DO resent the ones who have come out, who are enjoying life and living their lives openly gay. It must make them feel like cowards, and hypocrites. Always easier to blame the ones who make you feel that way than it is to deal with your own hangups.
