Pentax 'K' Mount Lenses Are The Original Type BUT, They Have Evolved (Been Modified/Improved) Into Many Sub-Types K, KA, KAF, Over The Years, The Original 'K' Type COULD Be Used On Some Leica Some Honeywell Some Ansco And Sears Cameras WITHOUT An Adapter And Some Other Cameras WITH An Adapter. It Just Depends On The Lens/Body Combo. Before The Advent Of "Automatic" Cameras, Manufacturers Like Pentax Often Made Camera Bodies And Parts For Many Other Brands Especially 'House Brands' Like Sears, Whose Bodies Were Just A Modified Pentax .

P.S. The Above Cameras Were ALL Non-Auto Focus SLR Type: Circa - 1950 To 1980

After Pentax introduced the K-mount with the K1000 in 1975, these camera companies adopted it: Chinon, Cosina, Miranda, Ricoh, Sears, Vivitar and Zenit.

You'll find a very informative explanation of the evolution of the K-mount on wikipedia.
