Jews and Christians believe in the first testament. God created the heavens and the earth, Adam & Eve, Abraham, Issac, Moses and the exodus from egypt, establishment in the land of Israel (biblically, not the modern day "State of Israel"), the 10 commandments and all the laws from those times, like keeping the Sabbath, keeping Kosher etc etc. The Old testament talks of the coming of the Messiah, the messenger or extension of God that will bring about the salvation and asscention of humans.

The Jews believe they are still awaiting the Messiah, so as such everything in the Old testament holds firm.

The Christians believe that Jesus was the messiah mentioned in the Old testament. And that his story was the events of the new testament. They believe that because he is the messiah, his coming changed the "rules" of the old testament, so the new traditions and beliefs of the New testament took over, things like salvation through Jesus, no longer needing to keep Kosher etc etc.

They believe in the same God and origin, but the arrival of Jesus changed the rules. So if you believe in Jesus, you believe in the "new" rules. If you don't believe Jesus was the messiah, you live by the "original" rules.

They have the same root. Actually, even Islam derives it's root from this same source (Old Testament). Christianity is the offshoot from Judaism after Christ came into the world and died on the cross to pay the price to redeem mankind. Judaism speaks of living under the law (Moses' & the 10 commandments) while Christianity speaks of "living under Grace" - the law is done away by Christ's work on the cross. Christ, as the perfect sacrifice for man's sin, has once and for all paid the price for man's sins such that those that accept Christ are forgiven and reconciled to God.

In Judaism, they are waiting for the Messiah to come and save them but in Christianity, the Messiah has come and the prophecies fulfilled to a tee, yet they (Jews believing in Judaism) will not accept this fact and continue to live under the law.

True Christianity was born out of ancient Judaism, so there is a great deal that is the same. Both believe in a single, non-trinitarian God called Jehovah (or Yahweh, etc). Both believed in the prospect of eternal life on Earth for many, Neither believe in an eternal punishment of hellfire, nor immortality of the human soul. Both believe in the benefitial nature of the Mosaic law, although the ancient Jews obeyed the letter an spirit of the law and Christians simply obey the spirit of the law. Jesus Christ was a Jew, and Christians follow Jesus which makes them Jews also, albeit in a siritual sense rather than a physical sense, circumcised in the heart rather than the foreskin.

I think that you have received a lot of good answers, giving quite conscise explanations to your question!

God Called the Jews to be His people and gave them the Torah to show them how to live in a way that is pleasing to Him! His prophets pointed to The Messiah, which they believe has not arrived yet! They live under the laws that God Gave to the Israelite nation in The Torah and wait patiently!

Christians have accepted Jesus as their Messiah (including many Messianic Jews) and live under God's Grace, trusting in Jesus' Sacrifice on The Cross and His Blood Shed FREELY FOR ALL! A single Sacrifice, that cannot be added to, or taken away from, it is a 'Done Deal'!

Sadly, some Christians have preached over time that the church is the 'new Israel', which is simply not true! They have also tried to say that God has turned His Back on Israel, which is also a lie!

God has Promised that His Covernant made with Abraham, will stand ETERNALLY and that a remnant of His People will continue! It is NOT for those of us grafted into God's Vine, to stand and scoff, but to be thankful for such a privilege!

God has been busy regathering His People into Israel for a purpose, to Fulfill His Prophesy!

The rest of the world is wasting its time, trying to bring peace to the middle east, because God says quite clearly in The Bible that only He and His Prayer Warriors in The Spiritual Realms will Work out the future for Israel and her neighbours! There are warnings in The Bible of consequences for countries who try to do so!

I am a born again Christian, who had a Russian Jewish great grandfather and I am thrilled about that privilege. However, even before I discovered my ancestry (my father hadn't wanted us to know because of all the antisemetic feeling during the war and afterwards in this country!), I had come to love this people from a tiny country who have faced the world with courage throughout history!

Love in Jesus,

Margi

Same God. The Catholics use the many of the same books as the Jews in the bible. This I believe Macabees... which is what Hanukah is based on. I believe the KJ version wipe that part of the old testament out. Its a shame. It really has some good stuff in it.

I really want to study that aspect. Plan to as soon as Christmas has calmed down.
