French bread us kinda resembles a loaf of bread. And a baguette is skinnier and longer. Also a rougher texture, not as fluffy.

Baguettes are the quintessential French bread; thus, in English, they are synonymous terms. The standard French bread loaf is rather long and narrow, looking sort of like a stick, which is why it's called a baguette, which means "wand" or "stick" in French.

The French do have many other bread shapes and sizes. There is a boule, which is a round loaf, and there are also the "batard," which looks like a fat loaf of French bread--what many Americans think of as an Italian loaf. The closest thing the French have to American bread is what they call "pain de mie," which is a rectangular loaf of soft-crusted bread.

French bread is shorter and broader then a baguette. It also has a less crunchy crust and a smoother interior with fewer air bubbles. Baguettes are longer, thinner and have a thicker, heavier and crunchier crust. Their interiors also have a rougher and more airy dough.
