For the last couple of days ive had an extreme pain in my right lower rib cage. It almost feels like ive been punched there because it feels bruised in a specific location on the rib bone. But the weird thing is ive done nothing physical or got hit or anything there. it just showed up over night. The pain radiates almost to my hip. And the pain feels somewhat like a stabbing/pounding pain. It almost feels sore like ive just had surgery. but i havent. Ive already seen a doctor but she didnt know. So please someone help.

Additional info:
It hurts when i breath, laugh, sneeze etc.
Also i havent been sick, nor have i had a cough, nor do i have athsma or anything im perfectly healthy.

Costochronditis and I have just got over a bout of six weeks with it, not nice. Try a hot pack, hot shower and sleep on the opposite side. I feel for you! Good Luck

I have a few ideas, all of which are not usually suggested by a doctor on the first go around.
1. Have you gained weight recently? If yes your body may hurt while it is adjusting [least likely]
2. Kidney infection or kidney stones
3. urinary infection
4. And Most likely is your GALL BLADDER! Yep it is located right where you are claiming it to hurt it is a stabbing pain. Does it hurt when you haven't eaten? Or eaten too much fat? Etc? It took 3 er visits and 3 wrong diagnosis to find out, and what do you know gall stones and it hurt to where I could hardly walk.

Only cure for number 4 is to have it removed or live on painkillers eat 6 meals a day small meals very low fat.

Good luck!

Could be a hernia if there is a burning sensation. That pain would appear in the front on either side of the scrotum or penis. If the pain is toward the back it could very well be kidney stones and if you pass one of those babies, you will experience pain like you never had. If you were in the army why not check with a VA doctor? Don't you have that option?

You could have Pleurisy. You'd think the doctor would catch this though.

If your having severe pain in your abdominal area, please seek emergency care. I had pain in my lower right abdomen and it turned out to be appendicitis...it wasn't pretty.
