So I have a guy best friend. He IM's me everyday. I will ask him questions and he will reply, "Yeah, I dont care" Like today I asked what gifts I should get my friend Max, because he got everyone else a gift. I was just wondering what ideas he had, since hes a guy; and he replies, "Yeah I don't care" He will do this on simple questions, like if I ask him if he listened to a song I liked. I mean we are 20.
Answers are great!
Why can't he just act like he cared, and kept that to himself!!!?!?!?

He seems too sarcastic for your liking. Just tell him about it and tell him your being serious or mention the fact that he's acting like a kid.

Because he doesn't care, and is impolite enough to let you know.
He is as much as saying: I'm here for you to pay attention to me, and I don't care what your concerns are, it is just too much of a nuisance to give any thought to an answer.
Next time he makes a similar comment, why not respond by saying you can see he is busy so you will just sign off. Then do so before he has a chance to respond. I wonder how long it will take him to get the message that you won't talk to him unless he can summon the courtesy to answer?

Because he is male. Plain and simple. If they show they care - they somehow think that they look weak or girly. Guys are weird girlfriend - leave those kind a questions for your girlfriends - dont ask the boys - they will never give you anything other than that answer. He cares - they just think differently that we do. We are more complex. :)

Ha, its funny cuz I have a friend who is the exact same way. My friend does it because he is brutally honest, and because being an asshole is funny. Its rude, but funny. Maybe your friend is also joking, so next time you ask a question tell him: "I know you don't care, help me anyway." He's probably just trying to be funny.

Maybe he really doesn't care. Gals and guys think very differently. What gals care or feel important often times are meaningless to guys.

Your explanation seems like he appears JUST PLAIN UNEMPATHETIC.
My suggestion for you to inspire 'some' interest is to really study and learn his "Hot buttons."
When you do eventually learn these "insprational lights" then easily l-e-a-d him to them when you are together very subtlely.
He will eventually appreciate your attention as he realizes your empathy toward helping him out of his self-imposed "captivity."
