"helplessly BLIND"? A few people might object firmly about the association of "blind" with helpless.
The former British Home Secretary David Blunkett could well have an opinion on it, since he was totally blind from birth.

Up to -14.00 here*, and I'm not even legally blind, and I'm far from helpless.

In most countries legally blind requires having 6/60, 20/200 acuity or worse in the best eye, WITH the best optical correction in place.
The strength of the Rx is totally irrelevant.

One can qualify as legally blind with much better vision than that if the visual field is markedly restricted.

The strongest Rx I've ever personally prescribed contacts or glasses for was around -24.00, but that's not a record.

Sorry, your Rx will have to be a lot more impressive to be well, impressive. To mangle John Paul Jones, you have not yet begun to see badly.

I think it's at least -5. I had a -3.5 prescription and I was not considered blind.
