Just because "Emman'uel" means "God with us" doesn't mean Jesus was God in the flesh. It was not unusual for Hebrew names to include the word for God or even God's personal name.

For example, Eli'athah means "God has come." Does that mean Eli'athah was God in the flesh? Jehu means "Jehovah is he." Does that mean Jehu was Jehovah? Elijah means "My God is Jehovah." Does that mean Elijah was Jehovah?

Does this mean God came to earth 50 million times? (Reasoning)

You're right, Tuberoot. Jesus is the King of God's Kingdom. That Scripture indeed calls him "Mighty God", but not "Almighty God." Christ is fittingly GIVEN those titles as he is God's only-begotten Son.
I'd like to direct your attention to Hebrews 1:2 which says, "God...has at the end of these days spoken to us by means of a Son, whom HE APPOINTED heir of all things..."
So, you see, Christ was GIVEN everything he has. God has appointed him over all things and as King of His Kingdom.
In Matthew 28:18 Jesus said, "All authority has been GIVEN me in heaven and on the earth." Can anybody give God anything? No. But, a Father would give to a Son...

Good point my sister. Many people on this site have personal names from the Bible that include a form of the divine name- are they also God?

As I say, if you really try to fix in a trinity in the Bible- you'll always end up with a BILLIONITY!!!

I fully agree with you.

Forgive me for the cut and paste... but here are some other verses to undermine the false theory of the trinity, that I posted somewhere else.

-----

John 14:28 " YOU heard that I said to YOU, I am going away and I am coming [back] to YOU. If YOU loved me, YOU would rejoice that I am going my way to the Father, because THE FATHER IS GREATER THAN I AM."

Matthew 24:36 “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens NOR THE SON, BUT ONLY THE FATHER."
If Jesus=Son, and taken into account that God=Father, assuming Jesus=God, and thus Jesus=Father, then JESUS should know concerning the day and hour.
But even Jesus admitted he didn't know. So JESUS is not GOD.
Unless, some people would like to suggest that Jesus suffers from amnesia.

John 20:17 nails it:"Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me. For I have not yet ascended to the Father. But be on your way to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and YOUR Father and to my God and YOUR God.’”

So, for all of those who want to worship a 'lower' authority, so be it. I worship Jesus' God, and if He's good enough for Jesus, He's good enough for me!

The next best arguement that anybody could come up with to explain this verse would be that Jesus might have had a case of multiple personality disorder. But then again, I would rather believe the scriptures than some oddball out there.

----

Mark 10:18 "Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God." (Also in Luke 18:19)

If Jesus is God, and God the only one who is good, then he should have accepted 'good' as an attribute. But Jesus did not.

This Immanuel would be different. As this child would change the course of human events. This child would be born and have some other peculiar names. Such as:

6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
( Isaiah 9 )

Please tell me, if the Trinity concept isn't approaching the truth, then which child born on Earth would have the attention of God, who gave these names to a child?

Haven't you read the scriptures?

Psalm 45
6 Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.

Why is God calling someone God? And who are His companions who He is set above?

There is no reference to the trinity found in the Bible. Therefore, the trinity is not a doctrine taught by the Bible but rather a doctrine taught by the church. Jehovah is God and Jesus is his son. They are two separate spiritual beings. For example, there are many instances in the Bible where Jesus (on earth) prays to his Father, Jehovah (Matthew 26:39). It would not make sense that Jesus would be praying to himself.

As for God coming to earth, that would be impossible. In the book of Exodus, we read about God and Moses' relationship. God would speak to Moses through angels and even a burning bush but never made an earthly appearance to speak with Moses directly. Exodus 33:20 says: "And he added: '"You are not able to see my face, because no man may see me and yet live."

Matthew 16:16,17; ' ... Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to him “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven'.

Jehovah's Witnesses certainly do believe the bible to teach that the name "Immanuel" prophetically pointed forward to Jesus. According to Matthew 1:23, however, who is it that calls the child by this name?

(Matthew 1:23) Look! The virgin will become pregnant and will give birth to a son, and THEY [humans who are familiar with the Isaiah 8:8 prophecy] will call his name Immanuel

There is no evidence that Jehovah God ever intended for that name to serve as the personal name of his Son. In fact, did Jehovah God ever express an opinion about what his Son should be called?

(Luke 1:26-31) the angel Gabriel was sent forth from God... So the angel said to her: “Have no fear, Mary...you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and you are to call his name Jesus.

(Matthew 1:20-22) Jehovah’s angel appeared to him in a dream, saying: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife home, for that which has been begotten in her is by holy spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you must call his name Jesus...”

When Jehovah's Witnesses refer to their Lord and Head as "Jesus", they are working to obey the command of God as expressed through his angel and as recorded in the Gospels.

In a similar way, Jehovah's Witnesses believe the bible to teach that the personal name of God the Father is also significant to true worshippers.

(John 17:26) [Jesus said] I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them

(Exodus 3:13-15) Moses said to the true God: “Suppose I am now come to the sons of Israel...and they do say to me, ‘What is his name?’ What shall I say to them?” ...“This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘Jehovah the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name to time indefinite, and this is the memorial of me to generation after generation

(Psalm 8:1) O Jehovah our Lord, how majestic your name is in all the earth

(Deuteronomy 32:3) For I shall declare the name of Jehovah

(Matthew 6:9) [Jesus said] “You must pray, then, this way: “‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.

Postscript: The account at Isaiah chapter 8 shows that the name "Immanuel" was likewise applied to a child centuries before the birth of Jesus. Do trinitarians pretend that child was also God?

here's bible that points to the trinity which just adds to how God with us 'emmanuel' was important.

Well Jesus spoke of the trinity when he gave us the great commission at the end of the gospel of Matthew "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age" Jesus also said that "I and the Father am one" and how can Jesus be with us even to the end of the age......through his Holy spirit that is spoken of throughout the bible..........

and in romans 9 "But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you, Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ [notice spirit of God and Spirit of Christ spoken in same paragraph with equal importance], he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you."

and don't forget that Jesus was the fulfilled WORD of God and the beginning of John says " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light". So you see John the baptist was to bear witness to Jesus and Jesus was the Light and the Light was God.

1corinthians 12:4"There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works ALL IN ALL"

2corinthians 13:14 "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all"

Ephesians 4:4-6 "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all"

1peter 1 "To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ."

Jude 20 "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life"

Matthew 3:16-7 "When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God decending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased"

there's one more but I'll have to find it and get back to you but scripture seems to be quite clear about who Jesus was and that there is a triune Godhead

found it

1John 5:7 "For there are three that bear witness in heaven :the Father, The Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one"

so how could the beloved of Christ....the apostle John who wrote the gospel, this letter, and the book of revelations really get it wrong when he said that the Father, the Word, and the Holy spirit are one.
