She has been icthy and irritated (by stress) since the new doggie came this past year. She has worked herself up to get sick since Ive had her 7 years- caused herself to get tonsilitis. However I believe that fleas were the worst this year and were not stopped by monthly flea drops. However now it seems the cold weather has drove the pesty fleas away.

My cat already has very sensitive skin... and has been itching these bites and they wont heal. What can I do at home to help her. I can not afford a vet at this time- looking for a home remedy to treat her dry and torn skin. my concern is she is unconfortable and re-tearing at her skin...and continuously licking. Cats mouths are filthy and I am afraid she may infect her wounds

I have been washing her in oatmeal saop...and I also apply flea drops monthly- not helping... from what Ive read is that its not good to wash cats regularly....it can be drying to thier skin...

I have an alcohol based product i bought for cats....for anti itch and helps numb th itchy feeling...but I am afraid that it will wash away the flea drops...

try a cat vitamin you can buy @ Wal-Mart for about $6-make sure it contains brewers yeast and garlic- this is good for the cats skin and will keep fleas at bay

also flea comb her atleast once a day to get any fleas and to help spread her natural oils

don't bathe her because it will dry out her skin

also they sell hydrocortisone cream and spray at pet shops that will help sooth and stop itching so she will leave the area alone and allow it to heal

good luck

A do-it-yourself way isn't an option when it comes to fleas. It's a total waste of money

What 'monthly spot-on' have you been using exactly? If it's from a pet store, it won't work. If you've bathed with 48 hours before or after using it, it won't work. You need to quit bathing the cat.

Frontline is about the cheapest flea treatment that actually works. You can get it online for cheaper, just beware that you don't get a fake product.

I shouldn't think you'll follow my advice because it's not what you wanted to hear - but I'm afraid feedind garlic, washing in dawn, flea shampoos, borax, salt and whatever else people on here suggest just isn't going to work.

My cat does the same thing some times. I put Sulfodene on her. It comes in a clear bottle, And the liquid is yellow. On the bottle it says it is for dogs. Doesn't say you cant use it on cats. It has never hurt or made my kitty sick. But if you are concerned, call a vet. You don't have to go in to get a answer. Good Luck, hope she is better soon.

We have one with this problem, almost. Yours is worse. We take ours and get allergy shots. She is miserable without them. You can try some "Skin-So-Soft" and see if that helps. She won't infect it by licking at them. They are supposed to do that.Pour like a teaspoon of Apple Cider- Vinegar in her water. About 16 oz of water.See if she will drink it. This may help some.I really hope someone is able to tell you enough to help her.You may need to find a home for the dog, or at least let her know you love her more then the dog! Cats are funny like this.

My cat has a flea allergy and cannot be bitten or she gets the same way. She got out once and got fleas and it took a long time for her to get over it, but she lost a good bit of hair- and was miserable.
Maybe your kitty is allergic?

Has she been to a vet to verify the "stress" as the cause of this?
It may be another reason, like dermatitis, parasites (mange, etc.), food allergy, etc. etc.
She should see a vet for exam and testing.
However, for now maybe try an oatmeal bathe to soothe her skin. and brush her often.

***Just read your update***~ do not bathe often and NOT with alchohol base washes,.. that WOULD be a painful irritant to kitty's skin and dry out skin terribly,.. alcholol hurts and is a disinfectant.
*~Try this then---get a bottle of Aloe Vera Juice and dab (with cotton ball) straight onto sores/scabs,.. do not rinse,.. hopefully it will soothe, "naturally" heal.
I hope this will alleviate the cat's discomfort till you are able to take to vet.

Sometimes cats and dogs can come out with a skin disease. Take your cat to the vet and the vet will give her (or he) a needle and shave the hair around the cat's wound. The vet will also give you some tablets that she will have to take.

Cats are mostly immune to the bacteria in their own mouth, its just like how when you cut yourself and stick your finger in your mouth, that cut doesn't get infected even though there are bacteria in your mouth. So don't worry to much about infection
