What about braids? I heard it helps the hair grow. Is it long enough to braid?

Determine how much length you need to get your ponytail and divide by 1/2" to get an estimate of how many months it'll take you. Then relax. Stress will make your hair fall out!
1/2" per month is normal hair growth so in 6 months 3" is all you can realistically expect. Keeping your hair moisturized will help you keep what you do grow.

Good healthy hair starts with good internal health. Have you ever noticed people that look really healthy have nice shiny full heads of hair? If I were you I would go into your local guru in wholistic medicine and see what natural supplement the can offer for robust hair growth. I’ve had success with a product called Provillus also.

Well there isn't much you can do. There are creams that can make hair grow faster but who knows which ones work? To get it silkyish just do two shampoo's every time you wash your hair.

1.) Don't use unessacary chemicals
2.) Use typical shampoo, oil, and conditione, you should be fine
3.) Don't over comb your hair unless it'll shed A LOT
4.) To prevent shedding, braiding or twists are good. If you hair is shorter I would suggest singles.

My guess is it's not going to grow fast enough for that. Maybe consider extensions, if you're really really keen on the idea?
